I refuse to be offended, because I think people who go around being “offended” by every little thing are just sad. (The Starbuck’s ad being simply the latest, saddest example.) But, as an American of Polish ancestry, let’s just say that I am… disappointed that the column was not edited, as so many others have been.
I’m gonna take a stab at defending Cecil. (Not that he needs defending. Ever.)
When he said, in 1984,
He was most certainly talking about Mike Royko. A “known saintly living personage”, an “underpaid journalist” of Polish decent, Cecil was merely talking up one of his “homies.”
