Politically Incorrect to be cancelled... replaced by Jimmy Kimmel

So, is this Maher feeling the backlash of his post 9/11 comments, or just low ratings?

The really sad part about this? With Kimmel getting his own show, ‘The Man Show’ is going to end :(.

I’m not sure if the ratings are low, or if they’re just in the wrong demographic. ABC is worried that its latenight material isn’t appealing to young people. That’s why they tried to get Letterman to move, and that’s why they’re taking Maher off. What they don’t seem to realize is that most young people will still watch Letterman, or even Leno. So instead of having the more mature viewers, they run the risk of having no viewers at all.

And Kimmel isn’t the only one that can do ‘The Man Show’. I’m sure they’ll have no trouble replacing him, if they want to keep the show on.

Maybe Kimmel will do both.

No kidding. How expensive are trained chimps these days, anyway? I’m kinda sorry about this, I used to love Politically Incorrect. But now, I don’t even remember the last time I watched it.

No, in the article they said that the Man Show will end production when Kimmel leaves.

Maybe he could just move the show back to Comedy Central. He used to be one of their highest rated shows until South Park came around.

Marc

I suppose Comedy Central or another network might take P.I. It was Comedy Centrals highest rated program until South Park came along.

Marc

I think Maher was lucky.
How long a of a run did ABC & Bill expect to have hosting a misapproriately titled, totally uncontroversial show where 2nd rate dimits and morons from the entertainment world give their ivory tower opinions?

I used to like watching Politically Incorrect when it was on Comedy Central. Ever since it’s been on late night, I forget to tape it. I haven’t watched it for a couple of years. Bill Maher is still a self-centered jerk in my opinion.

I predict that P.I. will move to another network, perhaps Comedy Central where it will become more popular, due to the fact that more people will be able to see it at a more convenient time.

As far as the J.K. show goes, while I find him entertaining in a sophmoric sort of way, my guess is that ABC will be trying to fill that time slot within 4-6 weeks. How many people that watch Nightline (one of my favorite shows) are going to stick around or have even heard of him? Not many, I would guess.

Maybe Politically Incorrect would be more enjoyable if it weren’t, what, 10 minutes long sans commercials. It’s hard to get an intelligent opinion in when every second line out of Bill’s mouth is a segue bit referring to advertisers.

As you wrote it:

Properly edited:

It’s hard to get an intelligent opinion out of Bill’s mouth.

A co-host thing with Bill and Ted (Nugent) would be entertaining, but Bill Maher by himself blows desiccated jackal.

If this gets the stupid Man Show off the air, I’m all for it. I like Jimmy Kimmel, actually, but anything that gets that no-talent hack Adam Corolla (sp?) off the air is worth supporting.

Bill Maher’s delivery has just gone to the dogs. Kimmel is genuinely funny and seems bright. I think we’ll all be surprised how he does on a better show.

Blasphamy!! The last one with Adam and Jimmy dressing up in pilot uniforms and walking around drunk in an airport was awesome!

Jimmy damn well better bring along Girls Jumping on Trampolines to his new show. Best minute of television EVER!!

PREACH IT.

My take on P.I.:

It was really good when it aired on Comedy Central, but jumped the shark as soon as it went to ABC. I place the blame squarely on one factor: Bill Maher realized that he was on network television, and started actually taking himself seriously. That’s the best way to kill a talk show: Give the host reason to think he’s the important part. Back when it was on CC, the focus was actually on the guests and you didn’t have Bill hamming it up for 22 minutes. I never watched P.I. to find out what Bill Maher thinks; I don’t really care what Bill Maher thinks. I watched P.I. to find out what his guests think, and he’s such a naturally gifted conversation-starter that he always helped me find out. In the ABC version, he’s so overbearing that the guests don’t really have time to stretch their wings.

Best case scenario as far as I’m concerned: He ends up back on CC, argues for (and gets) a full hour to do his thing, and takes a back seat to his guests. If he does that, he’ll be ratings gold all over again.
Cheers,

Ted Koppel got the last laugh.
