Poll: Do you celebrate Kwanzaa, or know anyone who does?

My fiancee and I were just discussing this…Neither of us know anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa. She is black, and grew up in a predominately black area, so we’re not just taking this out of a sample size of 3 or 4 people here. Between her family and everyone she knows, and all of the black folks that I know – none of em get kwazee on Kwanzaa (apologies to Krusty the Clown).

So… if you know anyone who does, please chime in. Also, if you know of these people – do they celebrate Kwanzaa in addition to or instead of Xmas?

Thanks and merry Ramadan and a happy solstice to all.

I hear about people who celebrate both Xmas & Kwanzaa, but I don’t personally know them.

Happy New Year!

This is also being discussed over here. The thread has unfortunately turned rather ugly, and we have yet to identify anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa.

I don’t.
I know people who do.
In addition to.

I have a feeling that it has spread and is more common in some regions of the country than in others. Also with some age groups more than others.

I don’t. I don’t know anyone who does. There’s got to be at least a few, though. I’d hate to think those rabid anti-Kwanzaa people in that other thread are all foaming at the mouth for nothing.

I don’t. My aunt does. She and her family celebrate both Xmas and Kwanzaa. I actually went to her Kwanzaa celebration earlier tonight. Too bad we showed up late and missed what was going on. We’re going back to her house tomorrow though (err, actually later on today), arriving ON TIME and will actually get to see what the hell is going on. I’ll be sure to report my findings.

I don’t know anyone who does, but that might not count for much.

Somehow, I’ve always pictured Kwanzaa as something along the lines of the Wookies’ Life Day.

Thanks for the link, SV. I searched before posting but the OP in that thread spelled it as “Kwanza”.

Also, there’s no need for anything to get ugly here – no disrespect intended, I’m just curious.

My parents’ next-door neighbors celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa. My mom asked them about it, so they had all of us (white folks) over one evening to participate. They do it because they have five kids and a big extended family, so for them Christmas is a crazy, travel-filled, gift blow-out. Kwanzaa gives them a way to have a private celebration with just their immediate family.
