If it’s warm out, all the windows will be down in my car.
In theory, I really like to drive with the windows down because of the breeze and because I enjoy hanging my arm out the window. But in practice, rolling it down leaves my face covered in hair – I think my hair actually grows several inches so it can blow across my face but good every time I roll down the car windows, only shrinking back up to its normal length once I roll up the windows again. It doesn’t matter if it’s loose or if it’s pulled back in a ponytail, my hair WILL find its way into my face if there’s air moving.
Since I find having my face covered in hair to be awfully distracting, it’s nearly always windows up for me. Sometimes if I’m a passenger and we’re just cruising around back roads, I’ll roll my window down then to get my fill of hanging my arm out the window, but that isn’t too often.
Male here, Tucson, AZ. I like driving the windows down at low to moderate speeds. I feel I have better visibility while making turns and I like being able to hear what’s going on outside so I can react to traffic more appropriately. I also like the feeling of the open air. I will roll the driver’s window up at higher speeds because I wear clip on sunglasses and the wind causes them to flip up.
Windows down if it’s cool, which narrows it down to spring and fall.
I really enjoyed being in the front seat as a driver or passenger and opening that tiny triangular window to aim the incoming air on me. It was as close to AC as we got when I was little.
I like them down, but my husband likes them up - we can rarely get a good cross-breeze going with only one window open. I have AC in my car, but I almost never use it.
If it is warm, then it’s a must (I don’t have A/C and I like the breeze). If I’m driving with others, then I try to keep them up because it makes it hard to hear them if we are on the freeway. If it’s cold/cool, no way am I rolling them down.
Still, voted male/yes roll them down.
When my hair was longer, I could not drive with the windows down unless I wanted to be untangling an ungodly mess for the next 45 minutes. Now that it’s shorter, I will drive with them down when the weather is cool (under 75 I’d say), unless I’m on my way to an important appointment where I can’t afford to muss my hairstyle. But I still vastly prefer a/c when it’s even a tad warm outside.
Male.
I prefer windows down.
AND I own (and drive) a convertible.

Female. As long as it’s at least 30F, I like the windows down. It makes me feel less claustrophobic.
I drive with the windows up, so i can hear my music without a lot of outside noise.
Windows down if it’s not terribly cold and water isn’t pouring into the car. Usually top down also.
Female, drive with the windows down in all but the rainiest, most bitterly cold weather, and it has to be over 100 F. for me to turn on the AC in the car. The only exception is upon driving downwind of a hog or poultry farm, when I am reminded of why I like power windows.
Windows up when driving on the interstate, and down everywhere else. I’m also a convertible owner, and I love, love, love driving with the top down every chance I get!
No, it makes everything look blue.
Seriously, though, I can’t generalize. It depends on the weather, my speed, how I am feeling, all sorts of things.
I like it in low humidity environments on cool days. In my hometown it’s often unbearable.
It’s frickin’ hot here, so I prefer the windows rolled up with the AC cranked. Even then, I occasionally roll down the windows to get the smell of the freshly cut hay when I go by fields that have just been harvested.
Sometimes, the trouble is, there’s ALWAYS someone smoking a cigarette at the intersection BLECH! So I usually keep them up.
Windows up. Always.
I hate any breeze/wind coming in the car and never have the windows open while driving.
Male.
I think a better poll would have hair length and texture (curly vs straight) rather than sex.
FTR, I’m a woman with long curly hair and while it’s nice to have the windows open when driving slowly, anything over 20 and my hair will beat me to death so I voted closed.
Other: it just depends. If I am driving around town and it’s not hot outside, I like having the windows down. If it’s hot, well, then rolled up with the AC on. If I am on the freeway or on a thoroughfare, windows up because there’s too much wind and noise.
