This is a question that popped into my mind while working on a paper a few minutes ago. I was writing about the marketing of public libraries to the community in general.
Thinking about my local library, I don’t really see any advertising for the library: it’s just there.
Along the same lines, the library on campus doesn’t really market itself to students. Sure, the subject librarians go to classes to do instruction, but I don’t really see that as marketing the library.
I’m wondering, however, if I’m oblivious to it because I’m aware of libraries. When I move to a new town, I get a public library card fairly quickly. Because I know the value of the library to me, perhaps I just overlook any marketing of it to people who don’t use the library.
So, does your public or academic library do anything that could be considered advertising/marketing and how? *
*While the question arose from my writing of the paper, the paper is not about this specific subject. I’m just curious about it.
