Poll: favorite numbers

Do you have a favorite number?

I’ve found that synesthetes usually have arbitrary favorites: “I like 4. I don’t know why. I just do”. Nonsynesthetes almost always answer in one of three ways: “No, I’ve never thought about”, “Yes, because it’s a significant date*”, or “7”.

My favorite number is 9 (followed by 7 and 3). I personally cannot fathom how someone could have no preferences whatsoever- I see all letters and numbers as being so different. But that’s just the way my brain’s wired.

*Or significant anything, really. Dates, addresses, SS#- whatever it is, they picked the numbers because of their associations.

42, then pi and e.

Forgot to add: say why you like that number. :smack:

When I was little, I liked how it sounded.

42, as it’s The Answer

666 'cause it pisses off the fundies

45, it’s the caliber of my favorite handgun

7, but for totally weird personal reasons that have nothing to do with the number’s cultural mysticism

713, because it combines 7 and 13, another number that has a personal interestingness to me, and seems very powerful

3, because it’s nice

3469, because it’s really nice, it’s just such a pleasant number - almost refreshing

I’m not a synesthete though…I don’t think.

I’m partial to Bill and Ted’s favorite number.

My favorite is 9. I also like 73 and 78.

24, because my birthday is on the 24th.

It’s also a neat number - you can divide it a whole lot of ways. It’s very friendly and cooperative.

Any power of 2.

I liked 7 before I knew about it having any cultural significance. It has the same personality as the letter D. I think of them both as handsome.

6, it’s a perfect number.

  1. I don’t know why. I just do.

8 and 29.

Same here.

Although I am considering changing it to -56 3/4

  1. Dunno why. It’s like it has a certain appealing symmetry, or something. Not the written numeral, I mean; the numeric quantity itself.

I like 7 and 10. 4 and 21 as well, but only if they’re together. 7 just looks nice, and 10 seems stronger than all of the single-digit numbers. 4 and 21 because something very nice happened to me on April 21st, and now the numbers have a new connotation in my mind.

Pi, for some irrational reason.

Also 00. It’s not really a number AFAIK but they put it on the roulette wheel anyway. I chose it for the back of my softball jersey because then when I ran out on the field, people could point at it and say “00!”

I’d say ‘Double-naught!’

7 and 42 have been my favorite numbers since I knew what numbers were and before I knew anything else about those numbers.

7 because of the word (consonant, e, consonant, e, consonant) and its color (which I can’t explain, but some of you will probably know what I mean).

42 because the first is twice the second and because it’s pretty.
