A) How long does it take to apply your usual makeup?
Workday: Five, ten minutes while I’m doing something else in the morning. (Eating my breakfast the SO makes, playing with the dog, bitching w/ SO about the world while we watch the news)
My basic is foundation, powder, mascara. (if I have 15 minutes to get out the door to get to work on time–I will do the mascara in the car at stoplights.) (AT STOPLIGHTS! Not WHILE driving.)
Normal-the last three plus an attempt at eyeshadow and eyeliner. I go for a natural look so do browns and plums
B) Do you do your makeup differently for special occasions?
Yes. I’m slower and more careful. Always eyemakeup, some fancier blush work and all kinds of lipstick action.
C) If so, how long does that take?
The makeup time? Twenty minutes utter tops! (when I was in high school, a different story–hours to get the poufy hair and teal eyeshadow…just…right)
D) If either A or B takes longer than 15 minutes, what accounts for that time?
Taking care to look right. I don’t do the special occasion often and I always leave extra time, just in case. I usually sit and read and have a drink while I wait for SO to be done.
A) How long does it take to apply your usual makeup?
Hmm…probably between 5-10 minutes. I typically do concealer, powder and blush. Maybe some mascara.
B) Do you do your makeup differently for special occasions?
Yeah, I’ll add eyeliner, lip gloss and mascara.
C) If so, how long does that take?
Hmm…I’m not so good with the eyeliner, so maybe an extra 2-3 minutes.
I have to admit - all the mentions of ‘blending’ above kind of threw me off. I taught myself makeup, so I remain nervous that I am somehow doing it wrong. Then I realized that I’m probably wearing the lightest possible shade of concealer and powder. I doubt there’s much to blend, although I remain fuzzy on the concept. I’d better go read that tutorial…
Jesus - that’s frightening.
I would put her look firmly in ‘Clown/Ho’ or ‘Clownho’ territory. I, uh, don’t look like that.
Workday: five minutes - concealer to hide (I wish) the dark circles; powder foundation; mascara; blush; lipstick; brow colour.
Going out: add another five or ten minutes - proper foundation + loose powder instead of the quick version and I usually wear eye shadow which I don’t bother with on a work day.
I’d say also five to ten minutes. The absolute most on a daily basis is moisturizer, foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss, mascara. Maybe eye shadow.
The only thing I do differently for going out is a lot more eyeliner, possibly liquid. That only takes a few minutes more.
Sadly, she looked gorgeous without any makeup on at all.
Whenever I see those makeup tutorials they make my eyes water. All that powder, so close to the eyes…my contacts itch!
I don’t wear regular makeup because of eczema. When I do it takes about ten minutes. Foundation, powder, mascara, liner, lip cream, lip gloss, concealer, two blushes, eyeshadow, that’s about it. I try to make it very subtle and clean.
And I DO blend and I DON’T look awful, thank you!
Slight hijack here, but I think relevant —
This thread interests me because I really don’t like to wear make-up – please don’t jump on me, that is not in any way a criticism of people who do, just bear with me and keep reading.
I wear just a tiny bit of make-up once in a while. A teeny bit. And yet, to borrow words from alice_in_wonderland, the moment I put anything on my face, I feel as if I look like “a ho or a clown.”
So I was thinking about starting a picture thread with before and after pictures of Dopers, i.e. with and without make up. Responses to Doper picture threads are always kind, so I’m not concerned that it would be a channel for snide comments. The before and afters could be lots of fun.
Are you all brave enough to join in? Look for it, in MPSIMS, in the next 24 hours or so…
Yes. And I am no damn good at it. They always come detached at some point, and I see it (it being right by my eye, and all) and think: SPIDER! …and usually scream about the time I realize no, it’s just my eyelash coming unanchored…
…obviously I don’t do this very often.
My eyelashes are both short and sparse, and the left ones curl while the right ones don’t, and I hardly ever leave the house without mascara, even if I skip everything else. Still, I can’t imagine even *attempting *false lashes. I lack the skill and the patience, and I absolutely draw the “for beauty” line at applying adhesives to my eyes.
A) How long does it take to apply your usual makeup?
usually 5-7 minutes, moisturizer, foundation, light eyeshadow, liner, mascara, gloss
B) Do you do your makeup differently for special occasions?
yes, I add blush, darker/more eyeshadow, lipstick instead of gloss
C) If so, how long does that take?
only another 2-3 minutes
How long have you been using the Bare Minerals for? I use it too, and when I first got it, it did take longer than liquide make-up. Now that I’ve been using it for a long time, it’s pretty fast.
It’s the only thing that doesn’t give me zits, too.
She looked soooo much better before the makeup.
I’ve been using it a year and a half now, but I’ve only been using it regularly for about 3 months.
Finding a nice place to keep it - lined up in a long shoebox lid - has helped a lot. So has finding a good cup for my brushes.
I’d really like to have a makeup table, tho. I’d much prefer to sit and take my time than to stand (like I do now) all hunched over and covered in powder
It takes me 5-10 minutes.
Moisturizer, foundation, powder, two shades of shadow, mascara and lipstick. No liner.
On special occasions I do the exact same thing, just with more dramatic colors.
The only time it might conceivably take longer is if I screw it up, which occasionally I do, then it could be another ten minutes to get it right.
I’m not high maintenance. I can be showered, dressed and fully made-up inside of 20 minutes.
A) How long does it take to apply your usual makeup?
15 to 20 minutes -moisturizer, cream foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, eye liner, eye shadow, curl lashes, mascara, lip liner, lipstick, seal lipstick with a touch of powder.
B) Do you do your makeup differently for special occasions?
A little differently, darker or brighter colors, and I usually will exfoliate & pluck & trim the brows first, as well as wear a tinted moisturizer with a bit of a glow to it and use more concealer.
C) If so, how long does that take?
Maybe 5 minutes more.
D) If either A or B takes longer than 15 minutes, what accounts for that time?
Blending, blending, blending.
She put MONISTAT ANTI-CHAFING GEL ON HER FACE!!!
She went through all that and still looked like she needed a make up lesson from a good drag queen at the end. Shame on her.
I missed that the first time. Er…does that help…at all? I’ve never heard of that. Ever.
It wouldn’t be my product of choice (but ask me about Prescriptives Line Preventor!), but it *would * serve to fill in any fine lines and provide a super-smooth surface for the makeup. Not that fine lines should be a problem for a girl that age.
A) How long does it take to apply your usual makeup?
Maybe five minutes, depending on how awake I am. Just concealer and loose powder. I used to wear eyeliner on a regular basis, but my husband isn’t really into me being made up, so I fell out of the habit years ago.
B) Do you do your makeup differently for special occasions?
Yes. I add foundation (for a night or formal event), eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick.
*
C) If so, how long does that take?*
About 15 minutes.
I’m stunned by all the people who say that they wear foundation every day. My skin is extremely sensitive, and minimizing the acne versus disguising it is a delicate dance. If I wore foundation on a daily basis, I would be one giant pimple.
