I’d say 5
Amen to that. And no, I do not feel old and out of place…I was a real goth before these kids were born. Of course, like Mr Eldritch I may deny all knowledge…
Well…most of my clothes are black (though not all, regardless of what my friends tell me). I’ve heard of Sister’s of Mercy but I prefer Bauhaus. I’ve never played in a Goth band but I conned the DJ into planing Skinny Puppy at my prom, and I’ve had sex with guys wearing more eyeliner than I was (come to think of it, wearing more fishnet than I was).
So I would say 9 except…I am not a Goth.
I am a Bohemian .
 .
I just call it “The New Style”.
It’s only when that punk, Giorgio Vasari came along, that I got labeled “Goth”. After all, who is he to question a truly grand style such as mine.
“Ha, renaissance!”
:wally
Hrrmmm, I have some problems with the OP, but I know that it is mostly in jest.
For example, I don’t see how being in a band makes you “more Goth”.
Perhaps I fall under 9…however, like betenoir, I am not Goth.
I always wear black (either pants or shirt), but not necessarily “gothic” clothing…not anymore.
I prefer the darker aesthetics. Gothic literature, poetry, and classically dark music.
I find beauty in all things grotesque.
I could write a book about vampire history, vampire literature, or vampiric theories.
Do these things classify me as “Goth”? To some maybe.
I prefer not to be labelled (don’t we all?). I just like the darker side of things, especially when contrasted against the lighter side.
With the way I’d like to dress and the kind of clothing I’ve been buying most recently, I’d say I probably am close to the 5-6 range… but well, finances and conformity to other people’s clothing standards in the past have seriously messed up my wardrobe. Essentially, I’m a bit of a clothing chameleon, but I prefer dark colours and hints of past eras, like Victorian or Renaissance. I don’t really think my style can go into a category at the moment, except maybe some weird preppy-goth-punk variation. Depending on what I’m wearing, one of them is prevalent over hints of the other two.
And I’ve also noticed a lot of my dressy clothes have a hint of Audrey Hepburn appeal in the lines. Weird.
I’m about a 5.5.
Been to goth clubs, have goth friends, like much music played at the club. Do I dress goth all the time? Nah. Sometimes, yeah. And whether I look good n black depends on whom you ask; my mother says it makes me look washed out, if that helps.
varies from 3 to 5…
i’m wearing ripped black jeans and burning candles right now if it’ll help…
6.5. Skipping the “Sisters of Mercy,” as I’m not so much into the music. It’s a .5 because I’ve only done the “Goth at Work” thing a couple of times, and that was at the sucky telemarketing job. My mood makes it vary, as does the season (Goth clothes aren’t exactly the warmest things on the face of the earth, and I’m allergic to the cold).
- It’s a habit of mine to wear yellow. A lot. I look awful in black. Hmm, maybe I edge closer to 0.5…
Hmmm…OK…I am NOT a goth…but I wear mostly black punk rock related T shirts. I own every Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie and Samhain albums on vinyl, Most Christian Death and Bauhaus albums on vinyl and the ones I don’t have, I have as MP3s, and I even dig Nick Cave. I think however, that that’s due more to having grown up in the 70s and discovering punk rock with stuff like early Devo and Pere Ubu along with the Sex Pistols when I was 12 or so. I dyed my hair black before, but I had a way NON-Goth mowhawk. I guess I would be a 4 on your list, but really I’m more of a NEGATIVE 4 on the goth scale. Goths are pretty silly, what with their Wicca and paganism and black fingernail polish and all.

I dunno. I’d say 0 except I go out at night lots. . .
9 verging on 10.
I mean goth in the mood way and not in the context of trying to live a life where one affects so bloody much.
Oh… and I LOATHE sunlight.
5 with the intention to raise that number once I’m rich and famous.
Do you knowThe Slaghuis? He does a Net radio show (Radio Free Abattoir) regularly, with old shows archived. Good site and great music.
Happy L my friend/kickbox instructor is a Jamaican born New York expat here in Prague. We try and go to shows when we have time, but family duties get in the way. We went to the Sister’s of Mercy last year? 2 years ago? When younger he sported anywhere from a blue mohawk to shaved head and lots of black. Plus back in the day there used to be a HUGE MEAN black guy who ran around the Denver punk scene. He even hung out with skinheads, which was very very weird. So they do exist.

Sorry, read “un-regularly scheduled shows” anywhere from 2 to 3 a year, but they are an hour or so long…
I’ve heard of Sisters of Mercy. So, 2. I guess. I wear browns and greens, and listen to Radio 3. I’ve got good night vision and the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft, though.
I’d confess to being a 9 but of course every Goth knows that a real Goth never says yes to that question…
Hmm. I’d say 3-ish, maybe. I’ve heard live Goth music, but only because I was at DragonCon. (I rank real high on the geek scale, okay? :)) I look good in black, but I only wear it for work.
I’ve always thought that Goth-ness was something most folks grew out of. A fifteen-year-old Goth? Perfectly normal. Of course, you think life sucks when you’re fifteen. A thirty-five-year-old Goth? I dunno. But if it makes you happy, more power to you.
Solid 3. But, oh, do I look good in black!

I’m not a goth at ALL, I’m pretty much your basic anti-goth. But I do own black articles of clothing and, being a college girl, I do go out at night, so I guess 1. I like the way I look in black, but I hesitate to call myself a 3.
