Wow, weird thread. Zombie thread gets resurrected by a guy named** Legsfeedthewolf**. Then, responded to by our resident outspoken paraplegic. Just odd.
I am wondering though, how exactly do you do a pushup, Jamie?
Male, age 32
About 25 (I usually stop at 25 rather than kill myself to get to my “max”).
Female
Age: 50
I can do 20 full-on straight-leg push-ups until I get a “catch” in the curve of my spine. I’ve eliminated the wrist pain by holding on to square-shaped weights. BUT, I can hold plank position for 1 full minute on hands AND elbows. However, I’m still sore from doing weight-loss yoga two days ago!
About 2-3 years ago I was doing tons of pushups and I could knock out sets of 100, I remember doing 493 pushups one evening during my workout.
I haven’t done them purely for number since then although when I was doing P90X recently I think I did 55 during a one-minute period.
Male
41 (now)

I wonder what zombie-style pushups are like
Male, 41. 60 Army-style. My arms are fairly strong, as I lift boxes all day.
I sit on a bench, tie my legs together using a yoga strap and leave my legs inclined (slightly) on the bench as I lay out prone across the bench with only my legs (from about the knees or a little lower on down) on the bench. My upper body and most of my lower body is lowered and raised (pushup) in this position over the floor. Think of an incline pushup. Now, this maybe a bit harder than the standard version but my atrophied lower body makes it easier.
Age: 56
Gender: Female
Number of Push-Ups: Zero, zilch, none!
Even when I was in the Army I couldn’t do these. The ONE time I got the “Drop and give me 50…” I just looked at the DI and said “You’re kidding, right?!” He busted up laughing!
In 2002 i was 41 & I could do maybe 3.
Today I’m 50 (well, I will be in Nov), I’m female and I can do 20 real ones, or 35+ w/ knees down.
The sky’s the limit though once I hit Zombie status!
Age: 46
Gender: Male
Pushups: I do 30 at a time on a regular basis. I could probably push that to 40 (if I didn’t have anything to do the next day)
Female, 48. In pretty good shape for my age, but weak wrists due to carpal tunnel syndrome, and a shoulder injury.
Proper pushups - none, due to wrist issues.
“Girls” pushups - 10 on a good day, depending on how my shoulder is doing.
“Barre” pushups - standing facing and holding a ballet barre, in releve, abs engaged - 20 to 30 before I’d have to take a short break to shake out my wrists. Can also be done at my kitchen counter, but my wrists like the barre better.
Male
55
Maybe I can still do 10. The last 5 will be kind of ugly.
That was then, this is now: age 51
112
I just double-checked to confirm: For good, rigid pushups, zero. I have to do a wave-wiggle to get back up. I suspect, though, that if I got in shape to do one, it’d be a short step from there to a few dozen: In general, my endurance is much better than my strength.
Now, my legs, those are in pretty good shape, mostly due to getting around everywhere on my bike.
you have to specify what type. when i was into competition (age 19-24,) i can do more than 50 concentrate push-ups (hands level with the chest, 10 inches away from the body on either side, done slowly, body perfectly straight.)
the cheater’s push-up has the arms clipped nearly to the sides of the body, hands near the sides, pumping up fast, with just the body moving up (legs stationary.) this is for triceps and back muscles. i used to pump 20 fast, pause for 10 seconds, then do another 20 until i reach 100.
i also used to do 1-arm undulating push-ups with the legs apart. i was never able to do the hand-stand push-up.
Hey, I liked the shoe question better, even though I couldn’t answer it either because I can’t count.
Let’s just say that I if you divide the number of pairs of shoes I have by the total number of shoes, that’s probably how many pushups I can do.
(Wait, there is a NEW shoe question. I feel like I just answered that one. I may be older than I thought.)
Wait, this is an OLD pushup question. I bet in 2002 I could have done two or maybe even three.
I think zombies only do push ups when there are brains spilled out on the floor.
My push up is with the palms at about chest level, near the sides of the torso, not spread apart. My legs are slightly spread (6 or 8 inches) for balance, knees locked. “Down” position is with nose almost touching floor, “up” position elbows are locked.
Age: 46
Pushups: 12
I ride an exercise bike 30 minutes per day, no other work outs.
Me:
Age: 44
Male
45-60 push ups
It varies because if I actually don’t exercise for a few days, I could hit 60+, but my muscles are in a constant state of repair, so getting to 50 might be a stretch some days.
I’m the kind of person that just drops and does 30 for kicks. Sitting by the pool? I will just bang out 30 if I am bored or song pumps me up.
Male, age 40, typically between 50-60 which I do first thing in the morning 4 times a week. Down to 45 if I’ve done some other kind of exercise first.
I’ve never been able to break 65, my elbows creak and pop.
