Inspired by this thread, I’ve noticed that military recruiting ads in my area(Portland, OR) tend to be mostly Navy and Army(in that order), with few Marines and almost no Air Force(I think I’ve seen one in the last year).
I suspect this varies by region but I don’t travel much so I can’t tell.
So I’ll ask the dope: When you see commericals on TV for military recruiter, which branches do you see the most advertisments for? Which ones the least? And where do you live? If you travel, feel free to mention differences you’ve noticed.
I’m mostly interested in US military recruiting ads but If non-US dopers can add to this, you’re welcome to go ahead. Same rules apply.
I don’t want this to turn into a thread about poltics, the Iraq war or what you think about military recruiting ads. If you want to discuss that stuff, start a GD thread.
Being a college student also nets you randon phone calls fron recruiters. Wonder how many people they get these days…
By the way, I’m in Buffalo, New York and Detroit, Michigan.
Army, Air Force (my town is fairly close to a base), Marines, Navy. Not hearing much from the Coast Guard these days.
Most of the Army ads have to be due to the exposure at school by the ROTC; it doesn’t help that I usually end up taking a Military Science class, either, so I can’t much complain.
The CG has only a fraction of the money that DOD services spend on recruiting. Plus, sponsoring Kevin Harvick (and Jeff Burton) must take up quite a bit of that money. But hey - 2 wins and 5 top ten finishes already!
Besides - CG ads really suck. I mean they are really, really bad. It’s friggin embarrassing.
All branches have commercials in my area. Their frequency are as follows:
Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines (very few these considering my location), Reserves, National Guard. I’ve never seen a Coast Guard Commercial.
The spanish channels (Telemundo, etc.) almost exclsively show Army commercials in spanish.
