Poll: Songs with 1 (of very few) word(s) in the lyrics

Background:
I was looking over the rules in Cafe Society to see if I could post an idea I had regarding another thread in the forum. It was during my search through the rules and regulations that I opened this thread: Cafe Society Policies.

To be honest with you, it was not all that exciting a read; it had the usual copyrighted lyrics and spoiler warnings that we’ve all seen before and a few wise cracks thrown in for good measure.

One reply, specifically Little Nemo 's message regarding the posting of entire lyrics

got me thinking:

There’s got to be alot of songs with 1 (or very few) word(s) in the lyrics.

My first thought was the dreadful Yello’s ‘Oh Yeah’ but as I ran the song through my head, I know there’s at least another whole sentence of mumbo-jumbo “sung” in the song.

Then the AWB’s ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ came to mind but that’s 4 words (not even counting the oh-yeah’s and the uh-huh’s). After shaking my head in frustration, I considered Gary Glitter’s ‘Rock-n-Roll Part 2’ but that doesn’t count either - the hey’s and ho’s don’t even count as words and the song is just an edit of part 1. After about 5 minutes, with smoke pouring out of my ears, I finally came up with one:

Richie Haven’s: Freedom.

But that’s it…I stopped at one because I’m trying to concentrate on work here at my desk and running through all these songs in my head was starting to hurt. So I’m opting for the easy way out - by asking you all. I mean I KNOW there are more, I just can’t get around this brain fart.

Duh! How could I forget

Wipeout by the Surfaris

?

Neil Hefti’s Batman comes to mind.

Zev Steinhardt

Foster & Lloyd’s Whoa

Webb Wilder’s “Ruff Rider.”

Ween - The H.I.V. Song.

“Topsy, Part II” Cozy Cole

Gee, can I reuse from another thread?

“Electricland” - Bad Company
“Summerland” - Kings X
“Yesterday”, “Michele” - The Beattles (they have alot)
“Holiday” - Nazereth
“Angel” - Aeorsmith
“Xanadu” - ELO
“Godzilla” - Blue Oyster Cult

You can reuse from anywhere, but all of those pasted songs (though they do have 1 word titles) have alot of words in their lyrics.

I Want You (She’s So Heavy) by the Beatles uses only 9 words (though they do repeat in variations). Ditto Why Don’t We Do It in the Road, with 13 words.

Toadies - ATF

OPPS! My bad! I will read more closely next time. I thought it was a tad too easy <grin>

“Minimum Wage”, by They Might Be Giants.

Don’t forget “(This song’s just) six words long” by Weird Al Yankovic. Although the lyrics as sung are “This song IS just six words long.” Count the words.

The Beatles’ “Wild Honey Pie”.

Honey Pie,
Honey Pie,

  • repeat about 12 times -

I love you, Honey Pie

  1. Silver Convention’s “Fly Robin Fly”

(“Fly robin fly, fly robin fly, fly robin fly, up up to the sky,” repeated several times).

  1. Neil Young’s “T-Bone”

(“I got mashed potatoes, ain’t got no T-bone,” repeated numerous times between extended jams)

  1. “Here Comes the Express” by BT Express (the “lyrics” are just the title repeated over and over)

To the tune of George Harrison’s version of “Got My Mind Set on You.”

“The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)” by Yes

“2-4-2 Fox Trot (The Lear Jet Song)” by the Byrds
