The "Favorite One-Liner or Phrase" from song lyrics game.

This has probably been done before. It seems like most everything has been done at the SMDB. But it’s fun, so play along if you like. Just post your favorite one-liner or phrase from a song lyric. I’ll give three examples to start:

“Daddy didnt need no little toys, Mommy didnt need no little boys” Van Halen Where Have all the Good Times Gone?

“Mister Fritz invented Schlitz and Schlitz must pay” Ella Fitzgerald I’m Always True to You in my Fashion

“I know you, I know you’ve seen her, She’s a sad tomato, She’s three miles of bad road” REM Crush With Eyeliner

“'Cause the record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance.” – Bruce Springsteen, Rosalita.

“C’mon Dave gimmie a break…HEY! HEY! HEY! ONE BREAK C’MON UP!” - Van Halen “Unchained”

"Out there is a fortune waiting to be had, you think I’d let it go your mad you got another think comin’- Judas Priest "You got another think comin’ "

“Two men say they’re Jesus; one of them must be wrong” - Dire Straits Industrial Disease

Come on, man, lets stand up all over the world. Lets plug a bomb in everyones ass. they dont keep us alive,
we`re gonna fight for the rights.
Build a wall with the bodies of the dead and we’re saved.
Make the world scared.
Come on, show me the sign of victory.

Accept - Balls to the Wall

I ain’t saying you treated me unkind, you just kind of wasted my precious time – Bob Dylan, “Don’t Think Twice”

We were both hitchhikers but you had your ear tuned to the roar
of some metal-tempered engine on an alien, distant shore
– Bruce Springsteen, I Came for You

I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome,
Swooping down from heaven to carry me home
– Richard Thompson, Vincent Black Lightning 1952

All my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
– Peter Gabriel, Your Eyes

Captain And Tennille lyrics - “Do The To Me One More Time, Once is never enough with a man like you”

always sounded more like a put down than a compliment, I can always imagine saying “well I’m giving it my all bitch”

[Dave Barry] That’s it, Romeo? You’re all DONE? [/Dave Barry]

“You think your so smart, but I’ve seen you naked.” Barenaked Ladies -Blame It on Me

“And it’s true that I stole your lighter. And it’s also true that I lost the map. But when said that I wasn’t worth talking to, I had to take your word on that.” Liz Phair -Divorce Song

“It’s Getting to the point where I’m no fun any more.” CSNY -Suite Judy Blue Eyes

Haha! I was just going to quote the previous lines from that same Liz Phair song:

“But if I’d known how that would sound to you
I would have stayed in your bed for the rest of my life
Just to prove I was right, that it’s harder to be friends than lovers
And you shouldn’t try to mix the two
'Cause if you do it and you’re still unhappy
Then you know that the problem is you”

Man, is that ever a good song.

Not quite a one-liner, I guess, but I really like the end of that verse, and it doesn’t make any sense without the previous lines.

“one of these days I’m going to hack you into little pieces”

-Pink Floyd, “One of These Days”

Not to knock the lyric, but you know that’s an oldie by the Kinks, written by the great Ray Davies, right?

“Life is a waiting room. Hope they don’t call us soon.”

     -Zebra, "Who's Behind the Door?"

Here are a few of my favorite pithy lyrics…

"Momma has a squeeze box, daddy doesn’t sleep at night." Rolling Stones

**“The ones we most want to kiss, are the ones that most resist.”**Geoge Michael

"You’ll never find a coupe-de-ville at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box." Meatloaf

"And if I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat." The Who

"We’re just two lost souls living in a fishbowl, year after year." Pink Floyd

"When I am king you will be first against the wall, with your opinions which are of no consequence at all." Radiohead

"If you want to kiss the sky, you better learn how to kneel." U2

"Take a look at my girlfriend, she’s the only one I got.
Not much of a girlfriend, never seem to get a lot."
Supertramp

"You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." Bob Dylan

“You’re a notch and I’m a legend” Alice Cooper, Desperado

“The log was in my pocket When Lucy met the rockett” Deep Purple, Knocking at Your Back Door

“Beat me, beat me, come on eat me!” Ted Nugent, *Free for All[/]
(I don’t know if this lyric is part of tha actual song, it is just sang at the end of the song)

“We’re tough and we’re Texan, with necks good and red” Elton John, Texan Love Song

I’ll think of more later, I’m sure.

Well that post was nicely coded, don’t you think??:smack:

“Lookin’ California, feelin’ Minnesota” (Chris Cornell? help?)

“There’s plenty of time to sleep when you’re dead. Stay up, don’t lie back down yet.” Dayroom, (god my brain sucks this morning)

This far and no Elvis Costello yet?

– Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, “Frank to Valentino”

“I am city / I am the park / I am glow in the motherfuckin’ dark.”
– Machines of Loving Grace, “Golgotha Tenement Blues”

“I’ve got space and space got me / I should be selling it by the pound.”
–The Jesus and Mary Chain, “Snakedriver”
