I don’t like two things. First I don’t like the damn huge names above the post, I like being able to just read down and if need be see who wrote it. Second, though not as important, I do miss the reply box at the bottom of the page. There are other minor things, the envelopes telling me what I had looked at etc, but that’s really minor to me.
I hate smilies. Reminds me of dimwitted high school girls named Bambi who would dot their i’s with hearts or smiley faces. This new version seems to make it easier for people to click and drag the damn things into posts - so that is a bad thing.
I never thought I would ever be happy to see a pop-up, but I do like that feature a lot - although it also only seems to be working for me sometimes - maybe I need to get to learn the hang of it.
The blue seems a little cold…I would have opted for a few shades of light green, but I will probably get used to the blue.
Now if only they had a built in spell check, it would be perfect!
All in all, kudos to those who are doing the upgrade - so far, thumbs up!
I kind of miss the “Straight Dope” banner. I have my back to a corner in an office that I share with one person, so I don’t have to worry about people sneaking up behind me. 
As a matter of fact, I was going to respond to the thread strictly to complain about the loss of Straight Dope “branding”, but then I did notice a very cool new thing: you can preview OP’s by just rolling your mouse over them. Good work, whoever you are. That should cut down on the incidence of people going into threads because the title wasn’t clear, or they misunderstood.

I think you only get the popup thingy on what has been posted since the update, that’s why you just get them sometimes.
Am I the only person that sees closed envelopes next to the threads I’ve opened and opened ones next to the ones I haven’t?
It’s kind of cool.

I liked the grayscale with blue and yellow. This is just so… nothing. It’s neat, but in a futuristic sci-fi movie kind of way, and you’d rather not find yourelf used to the thing.
That would probably be better if a fifth of the screen wasn’t the background.
One thing I’m fond of is the menu at the top. When you hit ‘Search’, it just pulls down a little window on the current page (try it, it’s fun!).
This way, instead of waiting forever for the search page to load, then waiting forever for the search results, I can just wait forever for the search results.
I should tell me boss about this increase in productivity!
Also, on preview, I notice there are a lot more thread subscription notification options (Instant, Daily, Weekly, etc.)
Okay, I lied when I said my post above would be my last word on the upgrade until TBTB are done tweaking, because I find myself in sympathy with this point from Mr. The Head. It never occurred to me, really, but since the philosophical emphasis of the SDMB’s debating community is the strength of the argument rather than the identity of the person making it, deprioritizing the name of the poster is part and parcel with this. Prior to the upgrade, I’d primarily read down the content and only incidentally pick up the name of the writer on the left. Now, it’s like a big trumpeting announcement at the top of each post, which to me is a subtle but important reversal of the SDMB’s unspoken philosophy. If this can be changed back, I think I’d be happier.
Okay, now that’s my last word on the upgrade, at least until TBTB say they’re done and give us permission to begin a whole new round of complaining.

The threads read like a series of 3X5 index cards. Admittedly, change and I don’t get along well, but the new layout seems really disjointed.
That said, I like the popup previews.
The forum page now shows bits of the titles of the most recently posted threads. This allows some of the less desirable bits of the Pit to ooze out into non-Pit territory.
It may not be the coolest idea to allow the F word to appear on the main forum page on a regular basis (as I found it prominently displayed earlier today).
Look up - to User CP. You can change your options there, and stop the madness.
minor7flat5, I was just going to say how much I like seeing the titles of the most recently posted threads on the main forum menu. I rarely visit Great Debates but I read at least two GD threads today because the titles sounded interesting. It’s a good way for people to break out of the fora they usually visit.
The new color scheme is good. The blue colors are pleasing and easy on the eyes, not that the old gray scheme wasn’t. The larger font for people’s user names doesn’t really bother me.
I don’t miss the STRAIGHT DOPE banner at the top of the page, but I wouldn’t have a problem if it came back since this would make it more consistent with the rest of the site. At work I just have to scroll down the page just enough to obscure it so nosy people walking by don’t see that I am on a non-work related site.
I’d like to see the quick reply box appear at the bottom of the screen like it did before.
The biggest thing I miss is the “Location” with each poster.
Like most people, I’d like to see dynamic widths used since there’s too much dead space on each side. I’m sure the boards admins will fix this among other things.
The only thing that I dislike is that so few topics are displayed in the listings. I’d rather have them compressed a little and be able to see a larger number of topics.
Love the pop-ups.
Miss the “quick reply” box, which is the one I almost always used.
I’ve been disabling “auto reply” and “use sig” on a post-by-post basis, which was annoying – thanks, Blonde, I hadn’t gotten around to checking out “user CP” yet.
Don’t feel strongly one way or the other about locations not being displayed.
As for the names…I like the fact that you can tell if someone is online or not by looking next to the name. If this feature was present before, I must have missed it.
Also, I just clicked the Enhanced mode at the top of the posting window…If I disappear or otherwise look and feel maimed it’s because I chose enhanced instead of guided
I like the new look (color schemes, fonts, etc) but the only thing I’m having a tough time getting used to is the width of the boards. I have trouble reading “top-to-bottom” so quickly and seem less inclined to scroll all the way down a page to read posts, whereas before, there would be several readable posts within one view, and reading “left-to-right” was much better…imo
After clicking a hyperlink, like a thread title, my links don’t turn red to indicate I’ve been there before - and this is unique on my pc to this board only.
