Poll: What was your first 'R' Rated Movie

I was about 13 when my parents took me to see The Blues Brothers. Of course, the MPAA now considers it to be PG-13.

What was the first R movie you saw with parental permission? Or even without, for that matter?

Animal House, I think. I would have been 12 or 13 at the time…

“Cabaret”, which I believe would still be rated R, but maybe not. It was made in 1972, when I would have been 12, but I think I must have seen it a year or two later.

A double-feature of Caddyshack and Up the Academy at the Highway 62 Drive-In in Springdale, Arkansas, in early February, 1981. Four teenagers, two movies, one bottle of Evan Williams, and a Chevy Blazer. Light drizzle and temperature hovering around freezing. It’s a wonder someone didn’t get killed.

An Officer and a Gentleman in 1982. I was probably 12.

Terminator 2, which I saw on tape when I was about 12 or so. The first R-rated movie I saw in theaters was Timecop.

Animal House on it’s first rounds through the big screen theaters. I was suprised when the boobs were shown. R movies didn’t go that far then, they just hinted at what was occurring.

Total Recall was my first ‘R’ rated movie, many (13) long years ago (I was about five at the time).

My sister took me to see “Saturday Night Fever” in 1977 when I was 12.

Refresh my memory. When did the MPAA rating system start and what was the first ‘R’ rated flick.

[brag]Speaking of movies that have had their rating changed, I saw “Clockwork Orange” and “Midnight Cowboy” when they were ‘X.’ And guess in which theatre I saw Midnight Cowboy.[/brag]

The first one I saw was First Blood.

Ford Theatre.

Mine was The Shining, but I saw it on TV in 1999. Close enough, right? I was, ah…just 14. Yeah I’m a late one, but I never really was into movies before.

I think I may have been in the seat next to porcupine.

Saturday Night Fever was my first R-rated viewing too, also at age 12. I thought it was so cool to hear Barbarino say “fuck”.

My First was ‘Princess Bride’ I saw it when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I just found out a couple months ago that it was rated “R” and I was really surpised. I would be willing to bet that my parents didn’t know that it was rated “R” either.

My first R-rated movie – Bustin’ Loose with Richard Pryor in 1981. (I was 11. Home video makes it so much easier for kids these days.)

AcidKid: You can find a brief history of the MPAA’s ratings system here.

I saw Apocolypse Now with my dad when it came out. I was 8.

I think he was expecting something a little more John Wayney in nature.

The Baby Maker, 1970. I was about 14, and when my Dad picked me and my friends up at the theater afterwards, he said “You shouldn’t be watching that kind of crap…you’re too young. How the hell did you get in??”

Daaaa-a-a-a-d, you’re embarrasing me!

hmmmm…not sure what my first one EVER was, although I can remember going to a friend’s house at around age ten…they had a VCR (still pretty novel at the time) and we went to a local rental shop to get some movies. The folks tried to keep us away from the R-rated stuff, but somehow we snuck Conan the Barbarian and Up the Creek past 'em.

First one I saw in a theater was Rambo: First Blood Part II, at age 12. First one I got into by myself was Commando, also at age 12.

Well, that’s embarrassing. :o sigh

By Barbarino, you mean John Travolta’s character on “Welcome Back, Kotter” right?
Oh Shera, I didn’t know that “The Princess Bride” was R! That changes things. Now, I’d say…I was maybe 12 when I saw my first R. Damn. All this and I’m not even seventeen yet. That’s rather odd, I wouldn’t have rated it in such a way at all.
