I have no idea. I just know I will prioritize my family above all else. If that means “converting” to the other side or taking up arms is yet to be seen.
That the vast majority of the guns legally purchased this year from gun stores were for far-right Christian militias planning on causing a massive civil war, based solely on the statement of the leader of a fringe group.
I don’t see a civil war happening, at all. There isn’t enough organized and supported hatred for it. A lot of people will be pissed over election results. A few will be willing to get violent over it.
But there are no standout leaders on either extremist side. The civil war happened because the South had leaders that were willing to secede and go to war with an army to enforce that secession. The North responded with the force of the Federal government. Who would those leaders be today? Who would the army be today? The South is as much Blue as it is Red today. Without some sort of government support on both sides there wouldn’t be more than sporadic acts of violence and sabotage.
“Support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That completely eliminates some options in the poll. There is not enough information to pick which of the remaining options applies.
I thought the entire point of the article was to examine what civil war would look like, assuming we had one. What IS your best case scenario for a civil war in the United States?
If a civil war breaks out, I will stand my ground, if you know what I’m saying. Those Trump numpties don’t intimidate me, I haven’t met a Trump supporter yet who couldn’t be handled with a fly swatter.
I literally have no idea why anyone with a brain would instantly think a Second American Civil War is the most likely outcome of a Biden victory. Every single scenario I’ve seen talked about by actual experts who are talking civil wars but “best case scenarios” (imaging that “Things go back to normal” isn’t on the table) speak on a weird very low energy conflict, where Biden wins and Trump leaves but the urban riots continue and we eventually start seeing a dozen people killed at each riot when protestors and counter-protestors tangle. Similar to what happened in a lot of post-WW1 countries. Something that people can easily ignore like the current riots but are still there.
Yeesh, this was a tough hypothetical(I’ve read the thread, not going to fight the hypothetical). Pick a side or run away…I have strong motivations for both of those options as my two primary choices.
I’d go with running to another country and seeking asylum, but, depending on circumstances, it might not be to difficult for me to decide to stay and fight instead. Most likely picking one side or the other, not too interested in joining some third group. I might listen to their recruitment pitch though, circumstances dependant.
Profiteer.
Rwanda comes to mind.
INCOMING!!!
Pie graphs suck. Especially ones based on different shades of one color. No offense.
Anyway, I wouldn’t participate violently except in defense of my own home. So pretty much the same as now if someone invaded my home.
I would definitely give up the Dope.
Too late, we are already on The List of troublemakers to be taken out.
Dammit, I didn’t know I had to scroll and there were more options. Well, we could try to plead asylum but that wouldn’t really work, we are not young enough nor have a highly sought after job skill that would get us points, and I have a really nasty current condition [cancer, under treatment] so that leaves secretly support one side or another in combination with pick a side and join the fray.
I am a passable sniper, give me a good poz and I can turkey shoot with the best of them. I could also try my hand at being a covert aid - run weapons and ammo, various supplies, people. If Canada were the invaders, I would throw my lot in with them, always loved Canada and Canadians.
I’d probably buy a shotgun and some ammo, load up on booze & groceries, and then hunker down. I wouldn’t go out lookin for trouble but I’d be prepared if trouble came to my doorstep. I’d probably wait it out while my passport gets renewed and then once I get that, it’s adios amigo. No point in stickin around in a country where people enjoy punching themselves in the balls.
I don’t think America’s Rwanda. Yes, things are bad, but not Rwanda bad. I’m not even sure we’re 1865 bad, really. It’s more like the way things were in the labor struggles of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
See the Coal Mine Wars of West Virginia in 1921. It’s crazy to think that this really happened, but happen it did. I don’t think we’d have 1861-1865 (though who knows, eh?), but I could absolutely see cities on fire. Homestead 1892, West Virginia 1920-21 - that’s definitely an outcome I could see. I could also see the occasional race riot as well. Chicago, East St Louis, Memphis, Tulsa. All possible outcomes.
And yet Pie is delicious! When come back, bring.
You have a point. Some people in the USA are rattled about the possibility of civil violence but the way they look at it is greatly informed from a perspective that many of them have been relatively insulated from the civil violence that has happened, periodically. “Range wars”, “labor wars”, “race riots”, the Klan, lynchings, Weathermen, Macheteros – for many Americans these were things happening in specific places and among a specific group of “those other people”. For many Americans internal American-on-American politically motivated violence was basically just the Civil War, and riots in 1968 because of Vietnam and the MLK killing, and everyting else might as well have happened in another planet.
I voted “Keep on keepin’ on” because I’m already outside of the U.S. This is what I would do either here or there, and that’s what I expect my parents and most of my friends and family to continue doing.
There will be some battening of the hatches, and I know there are definitely a few that are ready to stand their ground. I really hope it doesn’t come to that.
