I’ve already been living in Canada for the last 18 months, and I’ve just bought a house which can comfortably handle a largish group of guests for an extended period of time, so if the US goes to hell I’ll be trying to get my family across the border.
For a minute there, I thought you were inviting us all to join you.
I’d support the peaceniks on both sides. That’s the only way you can get peace; to hope that both sides’ pacifists prevail. The ones with level heads.
If there’s a civil war, I don’t think anyone will be working to renew passports, or that American passports will matter to anyone. You’d be better off just going right to a border and asking for asylum, as those down south have done.
I’m available for adoption. Just sayin’…
Although the thought has been in my mind over the past few months, I refuse to believe this will happen. That said, in a “worst comes to worst” scenario, I’d pick, “Escape to another country and plead asylum.” I think whatever civil war that might hypothetically occur would be end up being more like Syrian Civil War, the Spanish Civil War, Lebanon during the 70s and 80s, and the collapse of Yugoslavia than first American Civil War. Instead of two sides, two states, and two armies, they’ll be numerous factions, sub-factions, and splinter groups spending their time fighting amongst themselves and committing atrocities. It will be a long, bloody, and often pointless affair in which no one will come out having the moral upper hand. Also, when it comes to armed rebellion, I’m probably too old to be of much use to anybody.
I live in rural Colorado mountains. I have a number of guns and ammo, though I’ve thought about getting more 12ga and 20ga shells. Most of the ammo I have is for large and small caliber rifles. I could use some more .45, .357 and 30-30 I suppose too…
Can’t really believe I’ve been thinking about this, but I have. Don’t really shoot any more, all of my guns are from the family in one way or another. In the past I tried to teach my Wife how to shoot and properly handle a weapon, but that would still need a LOT of work.
I would defend our home and hunker down. Probably invite some close friends/family to come stay with us.
“Jaw, jaw is better than war, war.”

Stay here in Montreal. But my three kids and 6 grandchildren are all Canadian citizens, although their spouses aren’t. But I imagine they could get sponsored by my children. One DIL doesn’t work. The second one is a physician and could probably get a licence everywhere but Quebec (she speaks Spanish, but not French) and my SIL has been working from home for 6 months and could doubtless continue to do so.
I picked Binge Watch Netflix. Maybe not literally; I have a stack of 50+ books I haven’t got around to reading.
I am disabled and live in a fairly rural ares so hopefully if there is a “civil war” it will blow over quickly.
I put “civil war” in quotes because I really do not expect there to be a well defined civil war. I expect more along the lines of more protests and counter-protests which erupt into violence. And maybe acts of terrorism and/or assassinations targeted at certain groups and individuals. Nothing like what happen in the 1860s with two well-defined armies meeting in battle.
