Maybe the message should be “we can do this!”
“It’s her turn!”

A bizarre flaw in the OP’s poll is assuming that centrists (“pure”) or otherwise don’t favor either candidate. They’re not going to automatically view the contest as being Che Guevara vs. Benito Mussolini and say “a coronavirus on both your houses”.
I identify as an extreme centrist but strongly support Harris, and think she has a decent shot at beating Crazy Donald.
My initial draft had something like 20-plus options. I thought that was ludicrous and cut it down. Sue me, it’s a silly thread poll.
I need people to remember what happened when they didn’t vote for Hillary because she was a a Clinton. If I was a believer i might even say God sent a literal plague for Trump - Covid was pretty widespread by March of 2020.
Now we don’t have a Clinton, and young people are the ones who are going to most suffer from Project 2025. I won’t like it as a woman of color and an immigrant and it is going to suck something terrible, but i am in a happy marriage and can probably eke by. Young people are going to be hugely fucked by Project 2025 and it will take a long time to outgrow that.
So it’s not just vote Blue. It’s vote against the republicans now and forever. They can never be a viable party again. They need to be torn down and we need to start from scratch with a non crazy conservative party.
I have seen that ad.
Yep. None of the options represented mine opinion, so I didn’t vote in the poll. Besides limiting the choices for centrists, the choices link enthusiasm and confidence in an unhelpful way. I’d answer the question “(centrist) I am extremely enthusiastic about Harris and cautiously optimistic she can beat Trump”.
Count me as skeptical but hopeful.
In the last election, we were looking at two guys who want to advance unions, increase tariffs, and ignore most of the big gaping holes in the political and legal systems that are allowing corrupt incompetents to fail up the ladder and skate through without consequences when they do something criminal or underhanded.
So far, I’m not sensing much of a vibe that Harris will change that dynamic, particularly.
I’m confident that she’s smarter than Trump and more moral than Trump but it remains to be seen how well she can campaign against him, where it matters (getting your own crowd all worked up gets you a little bit but it’s not sufficient). So in terms of whether she’ll win or not, that’s up to the polls, not me.
Personally, I’d recommend that she comes up with a economic plan that doesn’t increase inflation. Right now, it’s sounding like inflation in every direction, for as far as the eye can see, whether we’re talking tariffs, trade quotas, dollar devaluation, minimum wage raises, or whatever. Printing bucks, making everything harder to accomplish, and fighting the market aren’t the only options and she should spend some time trying to find an economic advisor who realizes that.
I chose this as closest to my view:
(left leaner) I am somewhat skeptical but cautiously optimistic about Harris beating Trump.
Actually, I’m a centrist who thinks the American GOP is extreme.
As to who will win, today it would be Trump because of the assassination attempt. I checked how long it took for Reagan’s being-shot approval bump to wear off, and it looks like it was about four or five months. So — by November, I am thinking that the ear graze will mostly be forgotten, while Trump’s likely bad debate(s) with Harris will still be remembered.
Me too on this. I think “skeptical” is also the wrong word.
I think Harris has huge upside and Trump has very little. But Trump’s cult members create a very strong floor for him. I also think Trump is very diminished compared to 2016 and doesn’t seem to be thinking on his feet right now, and Harris seems be wiping the floor with him. Ceteris paribus, I think Harris will win solidly.
Howbeit, this election has also taught us to expect the unexpected. For example, if Trump were to ditch Vance and whip in Haley, that could drastically alter the chemistry of things again.
What is up with Taylor Swift? I like her and I like her music, but she’s not running for office. She was a Biden supporter in 2020. I just can’t figure out why she would appear a a political event?
Because you see- she is a woman, and doesnt want scumbucket rapist assholes getting back into the Oval Office.
Many celebrities come out to work for or endorse varios candidates.
Roseanne Barr, Kid Rock and a few other D list celebrities have endorsed trump, even.
If nothing else, he does know how to lock in the daytime TV audience.
BUT… Trump got 12% of the Black vote in 2020, and Cornel West will take Black votes away from Harris in some swing states (Cornel, why are you doing this?)
I expect that the reason they didn’t anticipate this scenario is that none of them (especially Trump) can imagine giving up a candidacy or anything else for the good of the party or the nation. Biden treating his personal ambitions as a lower priority than the greater good is utterly alien to these people.
She has a tremendous amount of influence with young people. And she uses her powers for good.
Cornel is “doing this” because he likes the attention, I assume.
I can’t support either Zionist genocide lovers… The US has no right to ever talk about human rights. But people don’t want to believe the truth, even though it’s right in front of their face.
Oh, we believe it. The question is what the best option for individual voters is.
Trump and Bibi will support each other’s worst behaviors. Harris - I dunno, but it will undoubtedly be “less bad”. And anyone else won’t get elected.
