Sorry for the nitpick, but the only sign people know right off without having to look it up is their sun sign. When you ask “What’s your sign?” straight off everybody assumes you mean the sun sign. I’m no expert on astrology, but what I’ve heard is that the moon sign is just as important to your personality as your sun sign, and your ascendant is even more central to your identity. For that matter, if you intend to astrologically survey people of the SDMB, message boards are a form of communication and that’s under Mercury, so it would make more sense to ask for their Mercury sign. Nobody can know these other signs without casting a horoscope, but fortunately there are sites on the web that will serve up your free horoscope in a jiffy. Just google “free” with “horoscope” and you’ll find 'em.
As for moi:
Sun—Virgo (hey, the sun went into Virgo today!)
Moon—Aquarius
Mercury—Virgo
Ascendant—Scorpio
Aquarius, January 24th. Also Ox. I believe my Moon Sign is Virgo, but I’m too lazy to doublecheck.
Virgo - Sept. 8th, same as Lsura. I read somewhere that this means I’m a perfectionist or something, so I must admit I am a just a tad skeptical of the whole sun sign/astrology thing. Oh well. Good luck with the study.
I actually know my moon sign off the top of my head (Gemini) but I don’t think it’s as “important” at least it isn’t treated as such by anything I’ve read. I don’t believe very much in astrology, but it is interesting.
September 23rd. On the cusp. Virgo and Libra. I’ve read that Virgos are anal retentives noodles and libras are well balanced creatures. I’d say I’m more the Virgo. I can be fastidious and all at times. 
But I think the Libra helps even me out.
