Silly Poll: Does Your Sun Sign Fit You?

I’ve often wondered… a) If you have ever bothered to read the general description of your sun (zodiac) sign…does it fit you? And, if so, to what percent would you say is accurate? As for me, the description fits me 95% Cancer (male). Friends agree. While I don’t believe in it nor let it guide my life decisions, I cannot deny the description really fits. From how I look at it, it just simply is - real or not.

What about you? What’s your sign, and does it fit you? If so, to what percent would you say is it accurate? Also, have you ever been told by others “that’s so you”? Also, it would help to know if you are male or female. Just curious to hear what the SDopers have to say about this… - Jinx

I’ve noticed that, if I think about it, most of the signs fit me in one way or another.

Dang, I was going to come back and ask that next. Yet, it really isn’t true for me.

Male Aries. Descriptions are pretty damn close, maybe 90% (I still don’t rule the world, so it’s not entirely accurate). I’ve read the descs on all the other signs and the closest I could ascertain was about 60%, but now can’t remember which damn sign it was. :wally

I’ll say this, the general desc of a sign is a damn sight more accurate than your daily horoscope.

Yes, I agree. And, there seems to be agreement for the general descriptions no matter what source you seek. As for the daily stuff, well…all I can say is that is seems the weather forecasts are not as contradictory from paper to paper!

Also, FYI: Just for the fun of it, I stumbled on a book that breaks down the sun signs into sub-categories by weeks within each sign (more than that typ. “on the cusp” catch-phrase, either). Unbelievably, even more accurate! Also, pinpoint- accurate about two SOs (not at the same time). I picked these two because I know them like a book: their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, what motivates them, etc…and even events in their personal lives molding them into what they are, how they act, and how they perceive the world…and so on…so it isn’t just reading between the lines, here. - Jinx

Well…I’m a Sagittarius, the constellation of Chiron, a notably intellectual member of the normally riotus and disreputable race of centaurs.

Half philosopher, half drunken horny beast…right on the nose, really.

There’s a very interesting “reverse astrology” site here. Given your answers to questions about your personality, it tries to predict your zodiac sign. For those who care about these things, it managed to guess mine.

An interesting thing to do is to take the previous day’s horoscope, remove the references to the signs, and ask a group of people who haven’t read them before to pick which one best describes the day they had. If you can get a large group to cooperate with you, give it a try.

For those who like astrology and large amounts of money, I’ll note that the James Randi Educational Foundation is willing to give the prize in its million-dollar paranormal challenge to anyone who can show them, in a properly designed and conducted scientific experiment, a correlation between personality and astrological sign. Yet all that money is just sitting there for some reason… tragic, really.

That cite elfbabe linked to tells me I’m a Virgo, but I’m actually a Pisces, and always thought I was fairly typical of that sign. (Except, of course, that astrology is 100% bunk.)

Amen.

Gemini, here.

We both agree that it fits.

From elfbabe’s link:

I am a Virgo - but when taking that test, I also have to think that, knowing that I do fall under that sign, my answers may have been skewed - after all, I know what the characteristics of virgos are supposed to be.
That said, I do fit many of the characteristics attributed to virgos, but not all. That whole neat freak thing? Nope, doesn’t fit, but then I’m a perfectionist in other areas of my life.

Well it guessed wrong for me, and my actual sign came joint bottom, i.e. least likely.

Explanation for this discrepancy? Astrology = nonsense. Apart from that, the test itself is flawed, as it is asking the subject their opinion of themselves, which is never going to be accurate.

Cool site, elfbabe!

According to it, I’m 85% likely to be a Virgo – another earth sign (I’m actually a Capricorn – that was the second-most-likely sign).

I do think astrology describes personality traits, though I realize it has to be bullshit. Ask me sometime about my disastrous adventures dating a Leo (or, as I’m still describing him, “a fuckin’ Leo”). I’m sticking with earth signs and water signs from here on out.

According to elfbabe’s site, my actual sign is the one I’m least likely to be, and the total range of possibilities was within 43 to 58 out of 100. That’s some science, there…

The test says I’m a Sagittarius.

I’m actually a Virgo, which sort of fits me and sort of doesn’t.

I was SUPPOSED to be a Leo, but was born almost a month late, but Leo doesn’t fit me either.

I am married to a 100% Pisces guy, though.

Another Sag here.

“Optimistic and freedom-loving, good-humored, honest”…yup.

“Blindly optimistic and careless, irresponsible”…yup.

I’ve also read somewhere that we’re creative and usually late to everything. Again…yup.

I’m very much a Leo (female, if it matters). The whole spotlight-hog, creative talen, ambitious and passionate and over-the-top-lovey kind of thing… For what it’s worth, the test said I was clearly a Leo, although like Lsura said, I may have accidentally skewed it because I know what the supposed traits of my sign are.

From elfbabe’s site.

Red is your most probable sign and Blue is your least probable sign. The scores are from 0 (not you at all) to 100 (dead on match).
