Thread title says it all: which do you think smells worse, tuna salad or egg salad? If you’re going to say neither, both smell great, or both stink equally, please skip it. We’re looking for an either/or response, please.
Thanks!

Egg salad. I think it’s the sulfur compounds in the yolk.
Tuna salad made with eggs is sort of the worst of both reeks.
Tuna. Yuck.
Ironically, I love tuna steaks.
Oy;Sophie had an easier choice.
Hmmmm . . . well, tuna salad does have an ungodly stench but at least with its origins being seafood it makes it at least somewhat comprehensible why anyone would eat it. Egg salad just smells like farts.
This is one of those whatchamicallit questions. If I say “tuna”, that means egg smells better. But if I say “egg”, well, then that means tuna smells better.
Dang. Now I’m gonna have a headache.
Peace,
mangeorge
BTW; you guys need to learn how to boil an egg. Check out Julia Child’s method in Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
egg salad, theres something disturbing about the smell of hard boiled eggs to me.
Egg salad, which I think may be the most disgusting foodstuff on earth. Ick.
Egg salad tastes delicious but the odor can only charitably be compared to sewer gas
Just out of curiosity, does anyone actually think either of these smell good or do people eat them *despite * the smell? Sorry to hijack, it just doesn’t seem worthy of its own thread.
I would say egg salad smells worse, unless there are raw onion in just the tuna then that would push the tuna ahead, if there are also onions in the egg salad then that would be the stinkiest
Sorry for the hijack. I don’t think either of them smells great in that I don’t want a tuna perfume, but I don’t think of either of them as particularly gross smells. This thread title surprised me. I mean, durian is one thing, but tuna and egg salad?
Egg salad–or anything involving hard-boiled eggs–is orders of magnitude worse than tuna salad.
Are you planning to bring it to work? Settling an argument?
FTR, I like to eat both of them (but don’t due to being a vegetarian) but I think they both smell bad, to some extent. I just have a strong opinion as to which smells worse, as does my husband, and we wanted to see what other people thought, to see which of us held the more widely held view.
To get a true guage of opinion, you’ll have to allow those who do not fine either objectionable. I happen to like both the smell and taste of boiled (Julia style) egg in my tuna salad.
Egg salad smells like farts. I like it, but there’s a fart smell. My boyfriend has a particular aversion to the smell of tuna, but I think for people with no personal dislike of either salad you have to say that egg salad is the smelliest.
I agree with this. Occasionally my wife will whip up a batch and my “Uh, wtf is that smell?” is quickly followed by “Did you make enough for me?”.
This is not a peer-reviewed, double blind study here. We just want to know what most people think smells worse. Most people can pick one. I sure can, and I’m on the record as saying I think both are delicious.
Julia would nevah eat a stinky egg.
I grow tired.
Hands down the tuna.
One of the foulest smelling things on this planet I swear to god.
When I worked at a deli I’d have said egg, hands down.
Once every 3 or 4 years I feel like having an egg salad sandwich, but having worked in delis for several years, I am wary of any egg salad I haven’t made myself. Immediately after it’s made it’s not that smelly… Tuna salad is smelly right out of the gate. So my vote today is
Tuna salad.
