Poll: Which pre-high school graduations did your schools have? (please read OP before voting)

This is a survey about the graduation ceremonies for younger-than-high-school students that were held by school systems you were once a student within. This is more a question about the schools than you personally attending ceremonies.

Voting:

[ul]
[li]If the school you attended had a different name that the ones in the poll, please try to pick the one that corresponds as closely as possible. For example, “primary” and “grammar” would be votes for elementary. Hogwarts would be a junior-senior high school… feel free to ask if you’d like help “converting” to the poll options.[/li]
[li]It doesn’t matter if you personally attended said ceremony - if it was held, chose that level.[/li]- I for example, will pick kindergarten even though I didn’t go to the graduation because I witnessed my brother’s birth that day instead.

[li]It doesn’t matter if you didn’t attend the school long enough to go through said ceremony. Some of your classmates did, so choose that school level[/li]
[li]It doesn’t matter how many schools you went to - if ANY held a ceremony at that level choose it. Even if it was only one out of three schools you attended. Even if it was only one out of twenty. It also doesn’t matter if you went to several schools that held ceremonies since the goal is to answer yes or no, not quantify anything. On the other hand, if less than one school you attended held a ceremony at a given level, don’t pick that level.[/li]
[li]If you didn’t attend school at that level (you didn’t go to pre-school or kindergarten; you skipped directly from elementary to med school), don’t pick that level. In order to count, you need to have spent at least a partial year in said school level.[/li]
[li]If you don’t know (perhaps you attended only a year and never heard one way or another), don’t pick that level.[/li][/ul]

A thread from a few weeks ago was about an elementary graduation, which none of the four elementary schools I went to had, even though I was in the highest grade of each school three times (two k-3 schools, one k-4 school, one k-5 school). So, I got curious about other people’s school systems…

Oh crap. How about you list your “yes” entries, then? Sorry!

We had kindergarten graduation.

I voted for the 8th grade option, but though I seem to recall there may have been one, I don’t really remember it. I remember some kind of certificate, a pretty shawl, and ice cream afterwards, so…I guess that was it!

It’s still early – you may want to scrap this one and start again with multiple choice options.

In 8th grade we were handed a bound fancy diploma at the end of the year in class. The principal saying how this was important as this is the only diploma some of us would ever get. The thing is he meant it in a nice way, but it sure doesn’t come across that way.

I am not sure it would be correct for me to vote (truthfully) “none of these” given that my high school did not have graduation either.

The schools I went to only had the one, final, High School graduation. Not only did I get to skip all that hogwash, none of my four children had to go through more than one graduation either.

When I went to school, there was no kindergarten graduation. In fact the school I attended from grade 1-8 didn’t even have a kindergarten. My kids went to the same school 25 years later , and by then there was a pre-k “step up” and a kindergarten graduation along with the 8th grade graduation.

I never had any kind of graduation before my high school one.

Me too. Why would we?

I didn’t go to preschool. The school I went to first had no preschool. So, they did a kindergarten graduation. I remember it being very hokey and a waste of time. It was also in a small space that has no air conditioning. I think prek and kindergarten graduations are stupid in general. Usually one kid cries, makes a scene, or doesn’t follow direction all that well.

I had an 8th grade graduation, too.

Now a days, I see less and less k-8 schools and think they do some type of 5-6 grade graduation deal.

I think it’s for the parents. I don’t really see a purpose.

I picked none of the above. I had graduation ceremonies from grade eight (senior public school-a separate school than either high school or public school), and from grade thirteen (optional fifth year of high school for university-bound students). As far as I recall, there was no graduation ceremony from public school.

I had a “Moving Up” ceremony in 6th grade before going from the middle school to junior high, but that was it. I know they were trying to pass around the awards to a bunch of different students, but I’m still surprised I missed out on Student of the Year or whatever they called it.

So weird. Where I’m from (UK), we didn’t even have high school graduation. Graduation was for, well, graduates (from degree courses).

Same here (Brit).

I’ve had two graduations in my life. One for a BSc and one for an MSc.

Just grade 8. I was the grade 8 valedictorian! Maybe I should put that on my resume…

Besides high school (and college) the only other graduation I had was for pre-school and that was back in 74’.
My son had a similar graduation last month from his preschool. I don’t expect his next one till high school.

None.
