No, not unless you paid me ultra-mega compensation for it.
I’d prefer just to GIVE some money to worthy charities, rather than participate in stupid gimmicks.
Why not both/and?
I voted no but I did give the request 100 dollars when “tagged” so my conscience is clear.
My way, the charity gets money and I stay dry. Win/win.
I have my own charities that I support, either with money when I have some, or with time by volunteering (more common since I rarely have money). I don’t need someone else telling me to raise awareness for another cause. This is actually the 3rd or 4th ice bucket challenge I have seen in recent months. This is also combined with all the moronic group messages I get about vague posts I’m supposed to make to FB to bring attention to breast cancer, money I’m supposed to donate for heart disease, etc. It never stops.
If someone feels that I’m not generous enough I’ll be happy to tell them about donations I’ve made and time I’ve spent volunteering. I don’t need to dump ice water on my head to feel good about myself.
I’d also like to know how many people doing this “challenge” even know what ALS is, what it does, or anything other than a baseball player had it.
I’m not opposed to doing it. I’m just not trendy or make videos of myself doing youtube like stunts.
I would do it if there is a Klondike Bar in the offering.
Excellent username/post for this thread.
I’d rather just donate the money.
Come on. You know half the people who are posting this on Facebook and Instagram or whatever are just doing it to see how many people click the retarded “Like” button under their post.
I wouldn’t do it, and expressing my opinion here in IMHO of people who do it or promote it would get me an official warning.
I’ll explain it. Lets say I nominate you to take the challenge along with two other friends/family members. If you take the challenge and dump ice water on your head you pay the ALS charity $25 and get to nominate 3 people. If you don’t take the challenge you are supposed to donate $100 and you can’t nominate anyone. I’m sure it’s mutating away from that and some are just dumping the water without paying. But since donations are way up it seems like a bunch of people are donating.
Nope. I think it would stop my heart.
Brrrrr
The whole roping someone into it and expecting them to donate even more money if they’re not into it seems tacky.
Just throwing it out there: if the money gets donated, does that matter?
I regularly take showers with the water as cold as I can possibly bear, and then make it a little colder. Would dumping ice water on my head be significantly “worse” in any way? If not, I don’t really get the “challenge.”
A bucket of ice water? Is it like the cinnamon challenge in that it’s much more unpleasant than it sounds?
Of course it does, I’m just getting a little tired of the trite “look at me” atmosphere that Facebook has become. And I’m not saying I don’t post stupid shit myself on Facebook and wonder how people will react … I just find the bandwagoning off-putting. I’d bet a significant number of people who do this on-line not only don’t donate shit, but probably don’t even know what ALS is or why they’re pouring water over their head in the first place, except that’s what everyone else is doing.
I think I meant, “of course it doesn’t,” but you get what I’m saying.
The next big awareness campaign will be about the dangers of hypothermia.
No, I wouldn’t pour ice water on my head for charity. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t engage in a stunt for charity.
If the next time you try to raise money, everyone looks at you and thinks “Yeesh, those assholes again” I think that it really does. And having been through the wave of FB videos and comments where a bunch of smarmy twits pat themselves and each other on the back for donating a whopping $10, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw this thread title.
