You drama queen, you!

Seriously, great job. And you’re looking good! I like this beard on ya.

The Foo Fighters’ is the best one yet.

Thank you for informing us.

It was a survey. I answered the question. I will not respond to nastiness as this is not the Pit.

Was on Facebook, discussing challenge ideas for Spina Bifida awareness. Someone mentioned that ice water is used because it shocks the nervous system, ALS being a nervous system disease.

While my previous response was at least somewhat positive, that was before I knew the specifics. I like the idea of people volunteering to do it and pay money. I like the idea of a challenge to make it more fun. I do not like the idea of the challenge requiring you to pay money. Especially since who you challenge is public. There’s no built-in opt out.

While I thought the guy who broke the Starbucks chain was being a jerk, I do agree that people should not feel guilted into giving to charity. I am against using guilt to raise money, period. There are certain websites I would support by turning off my adblocker, but they decided to pull out a guilt trip, so they will never get anything from me.

With a worthy cause, I wouldn’t be so strict about that, but I definitely am less than inclined to contribute to this due to the factors given. I won’t ruin anyone else’s fun like the Starbucks asshole, but I won’t participate either.

(I would like to just try the ice bucket thing for the experience, though.)

To date, 4 of the people challenged when I was (I was challenged twice, each person naming 3) and the 3 I challenged have opted out just fine.

I really have no hard feelings if they don’t, and I deliberately chose people who to my knowledge can afford the donation, but, no responses to date. C’est la vie; it’s for a good cause, but it’s just an Internet meme.

And it’s one HELL OF A LOT better than having people arrested for March-of-Dimes (about which don’t even get me started- I officially HATE that promotion and have threatened unfriending on Facebook and physical violence in person to the next person who does it to me).

That is revisionist history. I first saw this last year sometime when it wasn’t attached to ALS. The Cold Water Challenge was gaining popularity over the winter for various causes. In it people would jump into cold bodies of water for charity. When winter turned into spring jumping into pleasantly warm water did not seem to be that much of a challenge. So ice buckets were substituted. Also several people were hurt and killed by jumping into water of unknown depth. It shifted to ALS in June of this year.

Don’t come into a thread just to announce your distain for the topic at hand.
