Pomegranates

Me and a colleague are having a debate. I am saying that information i have in my posession, states that pomegranates have EXACTLY 365 seeds inside, however, he states that it is fabrication in its entirity, and that it is impossible for anything to follow such a strict patter. Help me please!!

According to Wikipedia they are said to have 613 seeds.

It’s stated towards the bottom of the article under the headline “Symbolism”

It varies significantly from fruit to fruit.

Each seed is formed when an individual ovum in the flower is fertilised by an individual pollen grain; for this to result in exactly 365 seeds in each and every case, even if that’s was the number of ovaries to start with (which I really doubt) would be incredible. It’s a myth.

I suggest that this analysis will be supported by the general theme of whatever documentation it is that you actually have that states there are 365 seeds; I’ll bet it’s a religious tract or something like that.

That link is awesome. Who would have thought someone would have gone to that much trouble over such a strange question.

Most multi-seed fruits are the result of a sucession of splits.
For example the number of rows of seeds on a corn cob resulting in an even number of rows barring an accident of some sort.
The table of number of seeds in a pomegranates seems to have about half being even numbers, with the total per fruit covering a wide range.

82 pomengranates?! I hope he ate them at least.

A side note - when you learn to read and write Hindi, the word for pomengranate just happens to be the worst word you learn. “A for Anar.”

When I showed that link to my wife, her immediate comment was, “Does it say on the web page if they’re being treated for obsessive-compulsive disorder?”
