In the 1960s, the US Army Corps of Engineers built a dam in Nicholas County, WV. They usually named dams for the town nearest the construction site. However, in this case, the nearest town (which was flooded by the lake the dam created) was Gad. So they named the dam for the next nearest town, Summersville.
