Pope John Paul II: Electric Boogaloo

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/01/26/pope.breakdancers.ap/index.html

"In an unusual spectacle at the Vatican, Pope John Paul II presided over a performance of break-dancers who leaped, flipped and spun their bodies to beats from a tinny boom box.

The 83-year-old pontiff seemed to approve, waving his hand after each dancer completed a move, then applauding for the entire group. He watched the performance from a raised throne."

Is it weird that I think that’s kinda cool? I’m not religious or Catholic, and I don’t care for breakdancing, but damn. Old Pope dude watching breakdancing. Wonder what the breakdancers thought of that…

Am I the only one reminded of http://community.netidea.com/mdefeo/swan/ourlady.htm Our Lady’s Tumbler?

The one at the site above is a short version, I remember a longer one in one of my Western Civ anthology books.

Jon Stewart had a clip of this on last night’s show. Words cannot describe the surreality of the image.
