Popular games you never finished

I hate to admit this, but there are several games which have recieved critical acclaim that I haven’t completed:

GTA3 is a great game. Really. But I just got bored with all the timed driving missions. I got about halfway through the game and just sort of lost interest.

Clive Barker’s Undying. It is kind of creepy, sure, especially the sound effects, but I never could get into the storyline. I tried three times to finish it but again I lost interest.

Rogue Leader for the Gamecube. This is an awesome game if you like Star Wars, but it’s kind of hard. You have to play this game a LOT to get good at it, and I just don’t have the time.

Freedom Force seems kind of cool but I’ve never been into RPG’s. I think I may give this one a second chance, though…

Dungeon Master. When last I left that danky dungeon, I was at level 11, moving down. I’ll get back to it one of these days, mark my words.

I started Wizards and Warriors. It seemed like just the type of RPG that I liked. However, I had a few problems with program bugs at the beginning, and by the time I got them patched, I had lost interest in the game.

Arcanum is another one I didn’t finish. I was enjoying it, but we had recently moved, and I didn’t have much free time to play. I played so little that I couldn’t remember the plot, and at some point just didn’t go back to the game. Perhaps I’ll start that one over some time.

umm

Half life, Deus Ex, Black and White, Max Payne

sigh

Riven. Finished Myst and loved it, but just didn’t have the time to devote to the sequel. And then I started playing Silent Hill on PS and Riven just fell to the wayside.

I’ll get back to it one day.

GTA3 - Same here. Lost interest pretty fast. Just the same ol same ol. Always driving and seemingly getting nowhere. I play it from time to time though.

Vice City - See GTA3. Not as bad though. I can play it more often since it has a cool soundtrack and somewhat better graphics.

Gran Turismo 3 - Awesome game until you only have endurance races left to play. Lost interest here because I don’t have time or the desire to drive through 30 laps @ 3+ mins per lap.

ICO - this game just looks cool. Intense graphics but that is about it.

I never finished GTA3 but not cause I was bored. I just didn’t feel like doing anymore missions. Once I unlocked all the areas I would just drive around and kill people and stuff. Love that game! Now I’m doing the same with Vice City.

I never finished Hitman 2. I just couldn’t get into it.
Also never finished Thief, Deus Ex, or Dungeon Siege. Fun games but eventually it just became a chore to play them.

I’m horrible – I’ve been trying to beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time since 1999.

::: hangs head in shame :::

I’ve even gotten to the very very end, when Zelda says, “Deliver the final blow.” I delivered it, and he killed me. Final blow, my ass!

Half-Life, the only game I’ve bought that I never completed.

I never finished GTA3, I got stuck on one of the misisons and I havn’t gotten around to it. I should get back to that soon…

Fallout. Can’t get past the military base.

Myst 3- I swear I won’t cheat this time. This is one tough mama. I can get to the 3 other worlds but what to do once there…?

Riddle of the Sphinx Can’t figure out how to get from the river back to the pyramid.

Hitman 2. I just couldn’t cope, after three-four missions in, how slooooooowly master stealthsman had to move to not make an equivalent amount of noise as a kitchenful of pots and pans being slammed together (to judge by guards’ reactions).

Half-Life: the Opposing Force and Blue Shift add-ons.

Warcraft 3. My enthusiasm just drained away suddenly at the final undead mission. After a few abortive attempts to continue over the next few months, I just cheated to see the final cinematics.

Devil May Cry. I reached a quotient of “I’ve seen all Dante’s cool moves…don’t wanna slog through more game.”

Tony Hawk 4, because I lack the dedication to shred phat thrashing moves with enough mad skillz, oy.

Sorta: Civ 3. Never played to completion in a game of it. Just didn’t grab me at all.

Monopoly.

MDK2 - I couldn’t do one friggin jump, and so couldn’t get any further in the game, god that annoyed me.

I usually get to a point where my impatience with something about a game exceeds my desire to finish it.

Black and White. What a snooze. I was at the end of the fourth level, smacking the creature out of frustration because he would just sit there and sulk instead of raising the totem. Then I learned that the last level had a couple of serious bugs. So I didn’t bother.

Homeworld: Cataclysm. I tried hard to like this one, but it just couldn’t hold my interest. I didn’t mind having to try the same thing over and over again with the original, but here it just felt like a chore. BTW, did anybody else hate the voice-acting here?

Zelda: The Wind Waker. Too much trouble to jump across the firey pits and the leavy pits. Plus I still needed to pick some stuff up, and I was getting really sick of rowing around with the crane hanging out of the boat. It’s still saved, I’ll come back to it. But not this month. Right now I’m enjoying my special release of OOT for gamecube much more.

Never finished the “They Hunger” conversion of Half-Life. Got all the way to the end but never beat the Sheriff in the helicopter.

Stuntman on the PS2 was so frustrating that I gave up. From time to time I try again and am reminded how bad that game is.

I never finished Black and White. Eventually I got sick of my whiny charges and trained my monkey to eat them. He got really fat, grew horns and started smoking.

Shenmue on the Dreamcast is beautiful to behold. Eventually I got sick of waiting around in near realtime for a store to open, or a person to show up, etc.

SimCity 4 had so many problems that I gave up after getting my town to about 15,000 people. At that point it was using up all of my 768 meg of ram, and started thrashing to disk. I deleted it. Perhaps if I hear it’s been fixed I’ll get the patch and try again.

And I’ve never finished Tetris. Played a single game for three hours and didn’t even get to the boss level. Damn them.

I think I’m at the stopping point with Devil May Cry (I know, behind the times on this one, I waited till it was in the $19 greatest hits bin). It’s still in the ps2, but I haven’t played it in two weeks.

i know its going back a bit, but R-Type Delta on the PS1. if anybody could get past level 5 on that game they have my respect.
on a slightly different tip, im the only person ive ever met that clocked Gauntlet, on the atari ST(!) all 512 levels. it took 16 hours!
i also cant even finish any tony hawk game with anybody

All time list:

Soul Reaver, Goldeneye, GTA3, Warcraft 3

LC

Tomb Raider 3. Finished the first two, but the third was practically unplayable, with the piss-poor graphics. I think I gave up around the third level.
