Portable CD player questions

I finally broke down and got a cheap little Radio Shack CD/MP3 player, just so I have some defense on the train when all the morons start screaming into their damn cell phones on all sides of me and I can’t read my book.

Now: the earphones that come with the player are pretty much crap. They give me a terrible ear/headache after a few minutes, and certainly don’t block out any outside noises. Can you recommend any (not too expensive) earphone that won’t hurt my senstive big ol’ Dumbo ears but will block out ambient sound?

Also, a guy at work tells me I can buy little testicle-like speakers to hang from the CD player so I can carry it around my apartment to listen to while I’m housecleaning, washing my hair, etc. S’trewth?

I don’t know what your definition of “not too expensive” is, but I find the SONY Fontopia earphones (like these) to be very comfortable. They are designed to be inserted into the ears and seal completely, like ear plugs, so they block out noise very well.

There’s something about my massive head that doesn’t allow headphones like those to stay in my ears even though I know other people like them.

I use something like this .
