Portis for Bailey? What do you think?

Well, I saw Bailey get burned more than once this past year and from what I saw last year Mcallister was THE MAN. I stand corrected on the his age though. That’s news to me. I don’t argue that to this point in their respective careers, Champ has been more dominant. Maybe this past year was an abberation for both of them, only time will tell. For now, I’ll stand by my McCallister pick.

Oh, and now Peter King is reporting that:

• The trade is agreed upon in principle, provided that both teams can reach deals with their new players.

• The deal does include Washington’s 2nd round pick

• No deal is official until March 3rd, when the offseason trade and free agency period begins. The teams are able to announce an agreement before then.
I am really shocked. If Denver’s track record is any indication (plug in any schlub at RB and watch him get 1500 yards) and they get Champ, then they are going to be a scary team this year.

Washington’s offense should be good, but I’ll wait on the praise until I see how the cards fall at QB there. With Coles and Gardner, and now potentially Portis – it’s a dream situation waiting for whoever the QB will be – Brunell, Ramsey, ???

I don’t get why the Redskins have added a 2nd round pick. I would think Bailey for Portis would be quite fair in and of itself.

AS far as I’m concerned, it’s just another offseason in Washington. On paper they will be the best team in the NFL. Then they’ll go 7-9 again. Not that I don’t have faith in Joe Gibbs, it’s just that the team is still owned by Snyder.

I say we dig up Jack Kent Cooke’s corpse. He’ll still do a better job of running the team than Snyder has.

Some times, I feel like such a girl. I get the feeling that males don’t have this sort of reaction when they find out their team is losing a player they really like…I mean, yeah, I can see why the trade would be good, I can understand what everybody is thinking. Sure.

But I really like Portis. :frowning: I don’t want him to go. Is that so awful? I just want my team to keep the players I like, damnit!

Hey pepperlandgirl, for what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s girly (or unusual) at all. In high school I got suspended for breaking a glass trophy case when I found out the Sixers traded Theo Ratliff. We cavemen get attached too. Just don’t, you know, cry.

Theo Ratliff? Do you have a personal connection to him? He’s a fine player, sure, but I am surprised you’d break stuff for him.

It sounds silly now, I know, but I was kind of a spaz anyway. I just loved the way he blocked shots. Never saw anybody get to the type of shots he could get to. I would’ve been more OK with it if they traded him for a scorer or something, I guess. The fact that it was Mutombo they traded him for probably made me madder than the fact they traded him.

Plus, this was the Sixers’ NBA Finals year, and they were 41-14 when the trade went down. I was just getting used to them winning on a regular basis, and I was absolutely paranoid they’d make some trade and gamble it all on that one year. As it turned out, that’s pretty much what happened.

I should note that I’m not a fan of either team. I dislike Portis, but admire what he’s done in the dawn of his career, and dislike the Broncos in general. I despise the 'Skins because I despise Steve Spurrier, although I’m warming to them now that he’s toast.

If you told me that Dwight Smith was leaving the Bucs I’d break things. If you told me Derrick Brooks was leaving I might never watch football again. If you told me Warren Sapp was leaving, I’d be ambivalent; he’s getting into his Bruce Smith/Robert Porcher years anyway.

I think it’s a better trade for the 'skins. Olandis Gary was super successful there and now he’s only mediocre in Detriot. I think most running backs get a lot of credit for having an awesome line ahead of them, as they do in Denver. Get one of the better corners in the game, get rid of someone who probably wouldn’t be playing for you this year anyway due to a holdout, and plug another runner into the machine.

Portis is good, but I don’t think he’ll be putting up gaudy numbers in DC with their line. Ask Patrick Ramsey about their blocking ability. Maybe Rock Cartwright too, if you can find him on his lunch break.

LOL, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one then. But I’ve only cried once over losing a player, and that’s when Elway announced he’d absolutely retire. sigh I still get a little misty. Have you seen the commercial for Arena Football with him and Jon Bon Jovi? And they’re playing football in Bon Jovi’s house, and Elway’s team is losing so he suits up (in number 7, of course) and kicks ass?

Yeah. I’ll admit, there were tears in my eyes. This was last week, btw.
