“Her” religion"? The people about which she was complaining had as much right to make shit up as she did. They simply didn’t comply with her particular group consensus about her make-believe - they complied with their own particular group consensus.
That’s what makes the dogmatic aspects of the OP (and indeed of all religion) so lame. None of it is referable to anything other than some shit someone made up, yet they go on about it as if it has some immutable objective basis.
If you ask me it’s all just in-group pecking order maintenance anyway - in reality the OP was just doing the equivalent of “virtue signalling” - ie “I’m sooo more Wiccan than them; I do real forest sitting and shit and they don’t, how dare they pretend to be at my level”.
I respect others’ belief systems. I have a very close friend who is a Wiccan and also briefly dated one when I was in my 20s. What I know about their beliefs is very positive and I have seen it do good for believers.
I do however have trouble biting my tongue when I see adherents get haughty about how “ancient” their religion is, since it was founded in the 1950s. That’s the only problem I have with it.
Except that, back in the 90s, it was exactly this for far too many of them. I was there, I saw it myself. I still suffer from the eye-roll induced trauma!
Poser Wiccans piss me off, doo-dah, doo-dah,
Poser Wiccans Buffy watch, all doo-dah-day.
They got no sacred spots,
They got no Goddess bond.
These old threads are crazy fun
But earworms cause dismay.
It’s actually having a bit of a revival in the UK lately, after channel 4 bought the rights to it and a bunch of other late 90s/early 2000s US shows- so… me, at the moment, actually.
So far I’ve fought off the temptation to start burning random herbs and chanting bollocks in made-up languages or attempts to summon demons though.
Poser Wiccans hexxed the moon, Doo-dah, doo-dah.
Poser Wiccans hexxed the moon, All the dooh-dah day.
Maaaaagic-blast the place, make the alien base
Science fiction wiccan scene,
Hexagons for loons.
Kimstu wants their earworm gone, doo-dah, doo-dah.
But it’s going on and on, all doo-dah day.
Hearing it all night,
Hearing it all day,
Careful what you ask for, pal.
It might cause some dismay
I respect anyone’s right to believe anything they want as long as I’m not required to differentiate between Q, Buddhism, the Roman Lutheran Church, pastafarism or whatever woo floats your boat.
