These days, what with all manner of pieces of metal poking out of all sorts of places on manny, manny peoples, I don’t suppose there is any viable code.
The OP does remind me of a similar question that floated about gay circles in the '70’s and '80’s regarding which back pocket one used to carry a handkerchief. Lacking a Bureau of Standards to govern this sort of thing, it seems different locales developed different (i.e., opposite) codes, so cruising the tourist spots was apparently like not speaking the language,… or something.
The old hanky in the back pocket thingy is still happening. Red, blue, etc.
Dunno about earrings. Maybe today its another way. An earring in right nostril, tongue & lip = straight. An earring in right ear lobe, neck, navel, ankle, inner ear canal = gay, I think.
I’m gay (response from crowd: WE KNOW!!). My first pierce was my left ear (My mom made me promise - no joke!) and then I got two in my right earlobe, just for the retro-fag-stereotype look. I think asymetrical earrings look better on a guy than symmetrical. I wear one small silver ring of celtic design that I bought in Paris for 15F in my left ear. When I dress up to go out, I put on a Bajoran earring (not an official one… just a stud and ear cuff and chain) in my upper right ear pierce and a large dangly one from the lower. And it looks like I’m wearing one large jewel.

hope that worked!
Anyway, there are lots of straight boys who wear earrings in their right, just confirming the ancient fashion dictate that whatever fags are doing now, hetboys will be doing in ten years. Worked with fast dancing, worked with necklaces, worked with earrings, worked with waxing. Hope you appreciate it.

But what if I want a woman to come on to me?
If I go right, I don’t get women hitting on me, I get men. If I go left, I don’t get women hitting on me, I have to hit on them. Ugh!

Even though I’m not a girl, I have an anecdote here. Once in high school I got paired with a cute girl for a round of three-legged soccer. She had on some big, dangly earrings. We couldn’t run very much, because when we did it would tug on her earlobes and hurt.

This reminds me of a comment I heard. What’s the deal with the scarves that guys wore in the '70’s? I have heard them referred to as swinger scarves. Is there some special meaning to them, or just a fashion trend? Yes, I know what a swinger is, but was the scarf a specific signal?
Lucky? I Have a silver hoop through one ear- kinda thick, with a lovely little ball on the bottom. Do I get to pick which hand I will be putty in ? <eg>
