There was a brunch, involving adults, young’uns, drag queens and savory entertainment. Naturally, a handful of protesters showed up, expressing concern about the children being “groomed”. The protesters were met by volunteer armed guards – a lot of them. Which was troubling to the protesters, because those kind of people aren’t sposta have guns.
Nonetheless, if there was a Positive Gun News Story of the Day, that one had to be it.

While three people died as well as the killer it would probably have been vastly more without the intervention. And strangely “He’d never pointed his gun at so much as an animal”.
Do we know where his bullets ended up?
They say that the shooter #1 took his own life. I haven’t heard anything about additional wounds. But if this was a proper western shootout, there must have been glass pitchers of water on tables exploding and stuff.
Actually, I was referring to Jordan Salinas, not the original shooter.
Maybe I worded it poorly, but I don’t think Jordan put any rounds in shooter #1. (At least not deadly ones.)
Also, was he responsible for any of the bullets that ended up in other people? At best, this is neutral gun news because he didn’t hit the original shooter, and at worst this is bad gun news if his bullets hit any innocent bystanders.
But the original shooter is a good guy for taking out the original shooter. /s
Czarcasm’s question is a reasonable one - if we are going to classify someone shooting back at a spree shooter as “positive gun use”, it behooves us to first understand whether doing so made the situation better, worse or neither.
He got caught and will hopefully pay a heavy price for it.

The spree killer was killing people (and he succeeded in killing three of them). When the spree killer came under fire from the the good guy and off-duty law enforcement officer he quit killing people and instead retreated, returned fire to the two people shooting at him, and then killed himself. Without this intervention the reasonable guess is that he would keep on killing people until the local police had arrived. If this was 5 minutes or so he would probably have killed five to ten more. Or it could be vastly higher if the local police had taken the attitude of the police in the Uvalde, Texas school shooting where the police waited over an hour before engaging.
Just what I was about to say. There’s no way that guns made this situation better.
I’m not sure why anyone needs to spell it out for you, but it doesn’t occur to you that the mass murderer would have likely continued to slaughter people had he not been engaged by two good guys carrying guns? Their actions almost certainly saved numerous people from injuries and death.
I think the point Chronos was making is that if guns were not a part of this news story, it wouldn’t be a story. Guns certainly made this situation worse (people trying to eat at a restaurant).
With what, a knife? He’d have gotten two, max, before being overwhelmed.
This is certainly silly as a “positive gun news” story, but mass stabbings can and do have significantly higher body counts than “two, max”.
The $200 tax for short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles and suppressors was done away with last year.
Yesterday, the DoJ refused to appeal a ruling that found restrictions on suppressors unconstitutional.
Does this mean we no longer need to fill out paperwork for suppressors? Would love to get some cans for my rifles.
