Possible job interview. Wish me luck!

Background:

I quit my job at the MegaHell about 6 weeks ago when I tired of the circular asshattery and the way management craps all over its employees.

I’ve been looking at jobs inside our school district with only one interview. ( Turns out that the personnel person just left that job and my resumes that I’ve carpet bombed this place with are probably in the new persons pile. If there is a new person there yet.) Terrific.

I’ve interviewed for one job and thought it went swimmingly, but it went to someone else. ( Here in a quasi-small town, it is all about who you know.)

I didn’t panic because, I am not that kinda person.
Then, about two weeks ago, Mr. Ujest’s company announces that everyone is taking a 20% pay cut in order to keep their jobs and benefits. This has never happened in the 21 years he has been there and in the 25+ years the company has been around. The place is a family to him. ( He collects ‘family’ members wherever he goes.)

Mr. Ujest’s colon hasn’t been the same. It is hitting him hard.

So, my need to find a job ASAP, in this environment ( in Michigan, no less.) is rather critical. My husband is also looking for night time work, as he never falls asleep until 1-2am anyways.
We are fortunate to live in a smaller house with a manageable mortgage. Our vechicles are paid off (one is in tolerable shape. The other is just fine.) We don’t live our lives like rock stars and we could care less about keeping up with the Joneses. ( It’s the Joneses that borrow stuff from us, like tools and equipment.) We are heating our house more with firewood this winter rather than propane. If we tighten our belts, turn off the lights and not drive willy nilly; we could possibly scrape by with a little help from the parental units in the food department. I haven’t had the desire to actually eat since he gave me news 10 days ago.

Anywhoooo.
The Meat of this Thread

I got a call from a friend of mine who works in a salon about 20 minutes ago and they need a receptionist. 24 hours a week. It is right by the school and my kids are of the age where they can be left unattended for about 1-2 hours after school one or two days a week. (For sprogs, they are very responsible when they are not trying to kill each other.)

I called back and left a message with whomever and am waiting for a call back either tonight or tomorrow.
I hope I am (insert appropriate adjective here) enough for this salon.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Shirley, I don’t know what “Mega-Hell” means or what kind of salon you want to work at, (hair?) I’m sorry, but I just want you to know I saw this post and I am wishing the best for you and the Mister.

I know our economy is really sucking right now, but I have all kinds of respect for you and all the others who aren’t just laying down and taking it.

Again, my best wishes for a successful outcome!

Quasi (Bill)

Good luck! I bet you will knock them dead in the interview. Well, not literally, because that wouldn’t be good.

As someone who was there 2 years ago I wanted to wish you the best.

Shirley, best of luck to you!! I’m sending good thoughts your way – they’d be mad not to welcome you with open arms!

:crossing fingers on Shirley’s behalf:

Good luck!!!

Michigan is a tough place to be right now. (I said that just to let you know that I appreciate the situation you are in).

Best of luck on the interview. I hope that it all works out the way you wish it to.

Sending lucky thoughts your way!

Good luck!

Knock them dead!

It is a funeral salon, isn’t it?

Go Shir-ley, go Shir-ley, go Shir-ley! banana dance
Sorry, my agility level doesn’t allow for more interesting accrobatics

You’d be the most funnest receptionist ever! Of course you’ll get it.

I have an interview Friday at 3pm.

Wooooooooooooooo!

It is a hair salon. ( And I am in the awful stage of growing my hair out from a pixie cut and I just want to shave it all off because it’s at that too short to style and too long to be perky.)

Thanks for the good wishes!

Good luck, Shirley!

As a back-up option, have you considered checking if the school district’s personnel position is still vacant? Any port in a storm, and all that.
