I have a problem with my one particular game on my XBone that has mysteriously reset itself and won’t load my saves - the local save file is there but for whatever reason the game isn’t picking it up.
I’ve had apps on my phone before which show you the file structure of the device and allow you to move stuff about - is there anything analogous for an XBox?
The problem is just with this game, everything else on the machine is fine, and all the normal stuff you’d try like reinstalling the game, my profile, wiping local saves etc hasn’t worked. So I’m clutching at straws here but perhaps someone else has encountered a similar problem.
Have you ever been able to save this game? or has saving never worked for this disk? You are just saying “Xbox,” so I’m assuming it’s a recent version on a DVD. If it’s an older one, on a cartridge, then I can tell you it has a battery in it that needs probably replacing. We dug out our original NES from the 80s in March, and had lots of games like Dragon Warrior that should save but wouldn’t; they needed a coin battery replaced, and then they were fine. (We did have to buy a tool online specifically for opening the cartridges, though, but it was only about $6.)
If it’s a disk, then I think there is something wrong with the disk. I’d return it. Try to get your money back, if you can, so you can buy another one from a different source. If you exchange it, you will probably get another from the same manufacturing lot, with the same defect.
You also might just try Googling “Xbox disk defect won’t save,” and see what pops up. It it’s a known manufacturing defect, you might be instructed to return it to the manufacturer.
If it used to save games for this disk, and now it won’t, your hard disk is probably full. You said you wiped stuff, but maybe not enough. You may have to delete a large chunk somewhere for it to start a new file just to save a little progress on a different game. You can probably save changes to existing files with the memory you have, but can’t start a new file.
Unplug the power cord
Hold the power button down for 10 - 20 seconds
Wait about 30 more seconds
Reattach power and turn the console on
I have an older X One that has gotten poor about fully clearing the cache which often results in saves not loading, or games freezing when trying to load. These steps force it to flush and generally resolve the issue for a while.
