My present laptop the firmware controlling the backlight it starting to fail, so I’ve been looking at my options. I’d like something under $600 and I plan to do no gaming of any kind on it. I get the idea that my idea of a perfect laptop doesn’t exist so I thought I’d see if anyone has some ideas.

Some way of illuminating the keyboard (backlight, thinklight, etc)

Something that doesn’t look like it came straight out of a business conference room.

Matte surface or something else that doesn’t collect fingerprints.

Matte screen.
Indicator lights on top rather than front or sides.
Windows 7 64 bit.
I’d have a preferrence against Toshiba, who I hate as a company, and Sony, who made the failing laptop I have now, and who I’ve had bad luck with their products in general unless one of these companies make the best option for me.
