Advice on buying a laptop.

Starting a new thread in the proper forum with an accurate title.

So my old laptop is so slow it’s not really usable even for web surfing either. For a replacement I settled on a new Sony Vaio since they have the three features I absolutely must have: Backlit keyboard, numeric keyboard, and non-glossy finish.

Trouble is the screen options. THe “E” series has the same shitty TN panels that ever other laptop has, and even in the 15" only has 1366 by 768 screen. I can get a base model for $500 or one “nicely equipped” for $700.

The “S” series has a 1080P IPS panel but it has a huge flaw in that the LG panel can’t produce red (appears as orange) or purple (appears as blue). The HP envoy uses the same panel and has the same problem, and there are no other sources for IPS panels in that size. The “S” series is around a grand, and I’d have to finance it. I’d certainly just pay for a base E and maybe a nice E.

So what would people suggest? I absolutely hate TN panels, but it seems like in laptops there’s few other options, and no perfect ones at the moment.

Buy a base E that might be good for 3-4 years, and hope another model that meets my requirements and has better screen technology comes out then?

Buy a nice E that might be good 5-6 years and for sure have to live with a shitty TN panel that long?

Buy an S and hope that LG fixes whatever there issue is and comes out with a drop-in replacement panel?
