Possum? Rose and the Arrangement?

When I was a kid, a friend’s stepfather owned a bar. We went there one night and saw Rose and the Arrangement. They played Chula Vista:

*I’ve got a magic twanger and it’s wild as can be!
And everyone that hears it is attracted to me!
I got it from a gypsy at a place that I know
And if you’d like to have one too, I’ll tell you where to go

Chula Vista, Chula Vista
Chula Vista, Chula Vista
Chula Vista, Chula Vista
twang TWANG
twang TWANG*

And so on.

Now, I’m sure that was Rose and the Arrangement. But when I look up Chula Vista it seems to have been performed by a group called Possum. Are Rose and the Arrangement and Possum the same? If not, are they somehow related?

Same band. Doctor Demento used to play their song “The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati” and explain about the two different band names–apparently the song has appeared on record under both names.

I think they did The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati in their set, too. But it was so long ago I don’t remember.

Thanks.

“Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy!”
