Post an original Cryptic Crossword clue

What is ahead of you has already happened. (6)

Perhaps we could start giving letters if our clues go unsolved for too long? Like this:

Answer expresses regret about leading character in Great Debates (6)
_ R _ _ _ _

That’s what they do over at the Grey Labyrinth puzzle forum, where there’s a cryptic crossword thread that started in the year 2000 and is still going strong

[ETA] of course, now I see that Biotop got that one anyway.

So it begins - Biotop usurps moderator privileges. Jerk. (4)

Correct.

I know I’m not the first with the answer, but since it hasn’t actually been posted:
Celebrity Death Pool

I got the answer from the “twisted game” part and knowing it was likely to be SDMB related. I actually thought Cotchford Farm was going to be the name of Michael Barrymore’s house, but when I Googled it I realised Brian Jones must have died in the pool there.
Hah! Good one.

Correct.
Was this one better?

I wondered if it was too much of a stretch.

In what way? That it didn’t sound enough like the answer? “Sounds like” clues are often a bit dodgy like that, you have to use your imagination :p.

Beer, gin, and Grandma drunk. A treat! (11, 3)

Still unsolved as of last page:

Devil’s cool, right in - Fokker! (11) (Malacandra)
Leading character in Great Debates liked girl, I hear (7) (Biotop)
Keen to support return of a mod (8) (hammos1)
Amy Acker’s Pylean small purse has title, disliked (7) (The Controvert)
What is ahead of you has already happened. (6) (Hoopy Frood)

Gingerbread Man

Ok, so what if I used

Thats allowed, right?

Depends. Some purists say you should never use such things to solve it. Some even say dictionaries and thesauruses are not allowed.

Meh to all that, I say. Use what you can if you get stuck. I just find I derive more personal satisfaction if I don’t have to use aids.

Though you probably could have gotten it without the aid.

I came up with this one by thinking Gingerbread Man would be an interesting answer. I than tried to see if I could come up with a way to anagram it. “Grandma” came right out leaving me with “ingebre”. I had pondered “bring”-ing e.e. cummings somewhere into it, but I couldn’t think of an elegant way to word such a thing without mentioning cummings, and then I’d have extra words. I then noticed that I had “beer” and “gin” just staring me in the face. The wording of the clue fell into place. I was a bit disappointed with Gin and Gingerbread starting the same, but I figured if I put gin in the middle, it would be a little less obvious that one of the words technically wouldn’t have to be anagrammed. Putting it as the first part of the clue would have actually allowed it to be solved as a charade/anagram combo rather than a pure anagram.

Confuse snake taken in part-time water transportation. (10)

I am going to try this one.

Either it will stump a few people, or it will die a quick death.

We hear “The duty on Cigarettes and Beer” was systematically arranged. (6)

Here is a clue for mine:The answer is in the word length, squared.

Syntax (sin tax)? I tried to put the answer in all caps but it just turns it all lowercase. It never did that before.

I began this thread by imagining I’m nude… you may linger here for a very illicit experience (5, 3)
