Post hidden by community flags?

Still, on this board in particular, which skews hard left, this basically lets the usual suspects just hide opposing views at will.

Meant what I said earlier. Y’all may as well go ahead and ban everybody that isn’t a radical lefty.

I’m certain you’re mistaken. If, say, someone posted a black-jungle-guy meme re Hermain Cain’s recent death, it’d be offensive and would get taken down.

I don’t disagree and will raise it on the loop.

Nobody posted a fucking meme. The VIDEO (not meme, video) was prepared by Jerry Jarret and Jerry Lawler to introduce a wrestling character. The character is a Ugandan warrior–really derived from the previous well known and world famous Abdullah the Butcher character. James Harris loved the character, drew more money as Kamala than he ever would in his Sugar Bear gimmick, and parlayed that into a run with Hogan in the WWF (prior to the change to WWE). If the guy doing the gimmick has no issues with it, why should anyone else?

After all the crap that internet goons have done to mock Michelle Obama’s appearance, your link just looked like one more thoughtless, offensive comparison. Your background as a wrestling fan not only was completely unknown to me, but it wouldn’t have mattered one bit. It was offensive, period. The fact you’re unable to see that is pitiful.

I have not seen this happen. The only things I’ve seen blocked for mod oversight were things blatantly against the rules, not just unpopular opinions.

Bullshit. Was Marvel’s Black Panther movie racist? It has people fighting in Africa with spears and shields.

The fact that you are unable to imagine any other possible motivation for either making the Kamala intro video (hint: the point, as with everything else in pro wrestling, is to draw money), or posting same, says more about you than it does about me.

Well, now I’m concerned that JC and the mods are discussing Oakminster’s proposal to ban everyone who isn’t a radical lefty. :open_mouth: :upside_down_face:

My point stands.

You honestly can’t see how it might come across differently to someone else?

Oakminster. needscoffee.

That’s enough of the side track. Whether it was offensive or not is outside the purview of this thread. Take it to the Pit if you want but stop it here.

Ummm…I started this thread. Do I not get some input on what is and is not the purview of my own thread?

Sorry, I didn’t realize where we were.

I hear comments like this a lot, instead of “Here is an example of the liberals getting away with it”. You would think that if the board skewed that far to the left useful examples would be easy to find.

Perhaps it is that you don’t get the final purview or thread venue. That’s up to the moderators. That’s why we have trusted them to do that.

Discussing if it is an issue that posts are effectively hidden or squelched is one discussion and should be continued. Beating to death the particular suitability or intent of a professional wrestling video is a whole ‘ other beast and was appropriately ended for the category it was in.

FWIW I don’t ever flag a post because I disagree with the opinion in it. I will flag for how that opinion is put forth.

I would characterize it as spectacularly tone-deaf and oblivious to current social standards. As has been noted, things that were regarded as OK 35 years ago are no longer regarded as such.

You may be familiar with pro wrestlers from 35 years ago, but I’m pretty sure most people were not. And your message was not in the least bit clear from what you posted.

Yes, it is somewhat humorous that Kamala Harris shares a name with a pro wrestler. You could have made that joke by simply linking to his picture in normal garb. That video might have been appropriate in a thread about pro wrestling, or outmoded racial stereotypes, but it was grossly out of place in a thread about the first vice-presidential candidate of African heritage.

You’re not really going to convince anyone of your case by playing the victim here, whether of the “radical left” or political correctness or social justice warriors or cancel culture or whatever you want to blame it on. You weren’t expressing a “point of view,” you posted a video that a significant number of people found offensive, and for quite good reason.

It was not “being a jerk”. I wasn’t trying to piss anyone off. I was making a joke. Maybe a bad joke, maybe a joke that wasn’t funny, obviously a joke that offended some posters, but a still a joke. There was no ill intent.

Your posting history doesn’t seem to be full of “jokes”, and you’ve been quite vocal about not voting for Biden, so it’s not too confusing as to why people took you as trying to slam Harris in some crude racial fashion.

I, for one, wouldn’t give you the benefit of the doubt about ill intent.

I said above that I attributed it more to being tone-deaf and oblivious than to ill-will. You didn’t receive a warning for it. I just edited out the video.

Thank you for acknowledging that some posters might find it offensive.

Look, you’re making a much bigger deal out of this than is warranted. You weren’t subjected to unfair moderation because of your political views. You posted something that was inappropriate in the context of that particular thread. You could have made your joke or your point in a way that wasn’t offensive. And you’ve suffered nothing more than having a video edited out. You’re not a victim of biased mods or radical leftists. I would recommend using this as a learning experience about reading the room.

What about the whole community flag thing? Do we have “click wars” now where posters can suppress unpopular view points?
