I posted the very well known introductory video made for James “Sugar Bear” Harris’ debut at the pro wrestler known as “Kamala”, with a one liner about Trump being in trouble because Kamala looks pretty tough (he was 6’9", 385). Some of the usual suspects whined about it, as they do…but apparently the board softwhere will now hide a post because posters flag it somehow? This is ridiculous. My post breaks no rules. If you don’t think it’s funny, fine…but posters don’t need or deserve a tool to hide posts they don’t like.
Given the grotesque racial stereotyping (even if it was promoting the wrestler himself) I think it was in very poor taste in this forum and in this thread. The post has been hidden by community flags, but I have edited out the video in question.

What the fuck is “being a jerk” about posting a link to a 35-someodd year old video? I wasn’t even attacking Harris. The point was comparing her to a bad ass pro wrestler that could squash Trump like a grape. The obvious implication is that Harris is also a bad ass that can squash Trump like a grape.
This is nothing but another instance of mod bias. And worse, now apparently the community has the ability to suppress unpopular points of view. Why don’t you just go ahead and ban everybody that isn’t a radical lefty and turn this place into the sickening echo chamber y’all seem to want?
Your 35-someodd year old video played on racial stereotypes of the big scary Black man from the jungle. That shit unfortunately flew back then, but people today recognize it for what it is. I believe you that it wasn’t your intent, but it just isn’t funny anymore. It’s offensive and inappropriate for a serious thread about the VP selection.

It’s a crazy thought I know, but maybe, perhaps it’s a typo for mod (short for moderator)?
[/quote]Yah… but I thought it was automatically posted by the Discourse. That’s why it seemed odd.
As the first one to respond to that post, I’d like to cut Oakminster a little (very little) slack. If you’d shared the background you eventually shared in the thread, along with an acknowledgement that comparing Harris to a 400-pound black wrestler in a faux-traditional African warrior get-up was, shall we say, highly irregular, I would not have been so quick to call you a juvenile racist.
But you see how it can be taken as perpetuating a stereotype, right?
What does this have to do with anybody’s “bias” or being a “radical lefty”, whatever that is? Your post was classic threadshitting in that it was completely irrelevant, completely inappropriate, totally unfunny, offensive, and added absolutely nothing to the discussion, but rather, detracted from it. If you think Kamala Harris can crush her opponents, you’re free to say so and give your reasons. If you just don’t like Kamala Harris, you’re also welcome to give your fact-based criticisms. I am not a mod, but I think it’s fair to say that you’re NOT welcome to disrupt threads with completely useless, tasteless nonsense. I don’t remember if I flagged that post myself, but it certainly caught my attention for the reasons I stated.
For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been pretty heavily involved in pro wrestling since the 70s, as a fan, and on a very limited basis, otherwise. I have some contacts in the business, correspond with some from time to time. I suppose, for someone less involved with such things, the obvious humor/relevance of comparing Kamala the wrestler to Ms. Harris the Veep Candidate–running against Trump, who has his own connections to the business, and even took part in a hair v hair match where he cut Vince’s hair in the ring, might have been less obvious than it appears to be.
That said, there was no racist intent. I disagree with the way this was handled, and Colibri’s action as a moderator, including his rationale. I am certain that if anyone posted anything similar about Trump, Colibri and/or other mods would be fine with it.
Frankly, I’m more concerned that the “community” has the ability to disappear posts expressing a dissenting view. An echo chamber is a bad thing.
