I’d hope to see examples where it stifled good discussion, instead of minimizing hijacks, before calling it a bad idea. It’s an easily gamed system; but it’s also easy to see when it’s being gamed.
Agreed. I think there are some people imagining a cabal of posters who are conspiring to squelch posters they don’t like.
The only time I’d say I noticed it was abused was when a since-banned troll caused a thread with interesting discussion to be locked. Hardly a lefty conspiracy, that one.
