Post-Musical depression: Why I shouldn't have seen Rent.

I’ve seen Rent five times, I think. Three on B’way, and I saw the Benny cast (2nd Nat’l tour) in Columbus and Cincinnati.

Needless to say, I really like this show.

I don’t think it’s just the music. Some songs, like Take Me Or Leave Me, Without You, and Christmas Bells, are absolutely beautiful. We’re Okay is well, okay  Your Eyes is just, bad, IMHO.

A large attraction to the show for me is the energy, and the community. Every B’way show has its own “fans”, but Rentheads are completely a breed all their own. I’m not one of the old school wait in line for front row tickets to Idina’s last performance for a week fans. But, yeah, I know the whole score, and most of the NYTW score.

It’s a great show in its message, in how it has gotten a lot of people back to the theater, and the sense of community. And I ALWAYS leave the theater happier than when I went in. Course, probably that would happen in the 25 cent porn ship down the street from the Neder, but…
