The new RENT movie looks...

Good.

There’s a copy of the trailer posted here. I really am looking forward to this piece now.

November 11th is so far away.

Really, really good!

Much warmer and richer than I was expecting. Yay! Now I just have to find someone to go see it with, since hubby’s a grouchypants who doesn’t like musicals.

I’m glad I’m not the only person excited for the RENT movie. I’ll admit I had my reservations at first, but this does look really good to me. I think Chris Columbus (surprisingly so) really does “get” it.

“Everyone has AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS!”

I’m hoping it’s good, because I’m not sure I’ll ever get to see it on stage, and for some reason no one I know will lend me the friggen soundtrack to listen to.

Only half of them, really. But yeah, it feels like a lot. A lot of folks had that pesky consumption in La Boheme, which is what this is an update of.

Because we’re all afraid it won’t come back. Seriously - I lost two copies that way. This soundtrack is like crack, I tell ya!

Whoosh?

Oh wow. I wish I could find a higher resolution clip to show people…

What whoosh? Consumption = tuberculosis. (Although now that I review, looks like it was rheumatism instead.) And yes, Rent is based on La Boheme.

And HPL’s quote was from neither Rent, nor La Boheme (which I was not contesting is the source). It’s a line from the movie Team America: World Police. The main character is an actor, to whom we are introduced starring in a hit Broadway play that is a Rent parody titled “Lease.” The finale of the show is a song called “Everyone Has AIDS.” That’s what HPL was talking about, that’s what you quoted with the info that Rent is based upon La Boheme, and that’s why I asked “Whoosh”.

Aah, never seen it. The whoosh is all mine!

It’s an Original Cast Recording.

The movie’s music will be a soundtrack, though.

Heh, are you and Annie-Xmas sisters? From another thread:

Yeah, it was directed at me. I use both terms interchangeably. Sue me.

Ahhhh. I hope you can see it on stage before you see the film - but then again part of why I’m pleased they’re making the film is so Rent can be experienced by more people. I’ve seen it twice on the stage and it is amazing and heartwrenching and the soundtrack is so amazing that it’s tough to lend out.

I very strongly recommend you get ahold of a recording ahead of time and familiarize yourself with the music, and thus, the words. If it’s anything like the stage production, it will be hard to follow otherwise. (I listened to it a zillion times before I ever saw it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But several people who I took to see it missed a lot of what was going on because it’s sometimes hard to parse.)
It does look pretty darn good, however.

That’s funny - I totally did that too. I heard the soundtrack at a friend’s house and had to get it for myself - so I listened to it a number of times before seeing it on stage. Definitely helped a ton.

Wow! It looks better than I expected! There’s something to look forward to.

Thanks for the posting.

Count me in as saying “wow that looks great!” I saw the show in 1997 and then sorta drifted away from the soundtrack, but I really think I’ll see this when it comes to theaters. Good to see it’s most of the original cast!

Rosario Dawson sings??

I’m impressed. My only concern was/is the age of the actors.

I love the musical, I loved the staging (particularly the phone calls and other “F-FWD” parts of the CD that were realized wonderfully onstage) but…

am I like the only person who enjoyed the show and still…

sorta…

kinda…

wanted to say

GET A JOB YOU DAMNED HIPPIES! STOP WHINING ABOUT BEING BROKE WHEN YOU WANT GET OUT AND EARN A BUCK LIKE THE REST OF US AND YOU’RE LIVING RENT FREE! AND IF YOU HADN’T STUCK NEEDLES IN YOUR ARM YOU WOULDN’T BE HIV+ YOU DAMN BOHEMIAN HYPPIECRITES!

but all that said, One Song, Glory is hauntingly beautiful with the huge shadow onstage and I hope that they translate that somehow to screen.
