(If this has been covered, let me know. I couldn’t find anything in a search)
I’m thinking of taking some time off and relaxing in a cheap, secluded area or perhaps doing something more eco-touristy (e.g. volunteer work). Can someone point me in the right direction for info on (ohgodthissoundsreallybad) “vacationing” in Thailand in the near future?
I have a few friends who are living there (though not on the coast), and they tell me the tourist situation since Boxing Day is extremely bleak, and that increasing poverty should win out over notions of bad taste (sunning yourself while people reconstruct their homes). I’m not naive. I’m not expecting to go over there and adopt a family of orphans. I just want to know if it is truly in everybody’s best interests for tourists to visit regions that are still rebuilding, where would be best to go, what I should avoid, etc. Has anyone travelled there or elsewhere in South East Asia since December?
I mean to post a link to this snippet.
