Swingers
I liked it. I expected more swinging. All in all it was a good 20-something buddies in LA picture. They say “money” way too much. You’re “money” man, you’re money. The ending wasn’t bad either.

The Warrior’s Way. The trailer for this movie that they show on Crackle is criminal. They make it look like Hero, and conveniently exclude the fact that it’s a fish-out-of-water slapstick comedy involving an Old West Circus and its lovable carnies, with hardly any martial arts in it at all.
Gosford Park (on Netflix)
I liked it a lot, but this literally is a movie you have to see twice to appreciate 80% of the details. I wish Netflix downloads offered subtitles, because the dialogue is Altman-overlap, hard to follow, and full of revealing info.
–The Servants/Peerage relationship is portrayed beautifully.
–Re-introducing the songs of Ivor Novello was a nice feature.
–The movie is gorgeous to look at.
–Maggie Smith is a Great Bitch.
–There are dozens of characters and none of them feel like cardboard.
Overall, as rich as MASH or McCabe and Mrs. Miller, but more complex and harder to follow. It definitely deserved it’s screenplay Oscar.
I don’t understand why people are posting their reviews in spoiler tags; spoilers are for when you want to tell other people something that could spoil the movie for them if they plan to watch it, so they can decide to not open the spoiler and not spoil themselves; saying, “It was a good movie; I liked it.” is hardly a spoiler.
It’s odd, isn’t it?
The earliest surviving copyrighted motion picture (1894)
(500) Days of Summer
Pretty good rom-com (more rom than com, however), with the easy-on-the-eyes Zooey Daneschal (sp?) constantly on the screen. Non-linear structure helps keep the boy-meets-girl plot fresher than one would expect, and the film ended on the right note. (1)
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
This was really enjoyable up until the final battle, then it all of a sudden became Too Much of a Good Thing. If she had had 5 ex-boyfriends, it would have been a better movie.
Battle Los Angeles
Answers the question “What if an Iraq War movie took place in America?” Also answers what Independence Day would look like if it were released in 2011. That said, I liked it. It had just enough pop for an alien invasion movie and it was one of the more plausible alien/Earth battles on screen.
The Mechanic (2011)
Jason Statham can basically do no wrong, so I enjoyed it. Quoth my wife: “Is it in his contract that a naked woman has to writhe around on top of him?”

The big secret is that Liam Neeson is a spy with amnesia? And now he feels bad about being a scumbag a la Arnold in Total Recall? Umm, OK. Still not too bad. Though I love that Neeson really was married to January Jones’ character (or at the very least having lots of shower sex with her) and it pretty much goes unmentioned after he realizes that saving the lives of a roomful of innocent people is more important than a romantic side plot.
heh. JohnT, we must have shared Netflix discs.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Unlike JohnTI loved it from beginning to end. Awesome sound track. Fun actors. Really interesting and cool visual effects. And a story that was different and good. Can’t recommend it highly enough to everyone, but especially to video game and comic book fans. I thought I was sick of Michael Cera, but that movie proved that he still is able to star in a film and allow me to enjoy it.
