Vince Ferragamo?
Everyone probably knows this one, but it’s still my personal favorite:
Which major league pitcher refused to participate in a World Series game, because it was held on Yom Kippur?
And I thought Eli had it tough, living in Peyton’s shadow!
Baseball analogue would be home runs and Hank and Tommie Aaron, combining for 768, with Hank hitting 755 of 'em.
Name the four baseball-playing Alou brothers. (Trick question).
Who was the first pitcher to start the All Star game for both leagues? And can you name the other four who followed?
Vida Blue. Also Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Roy Halladay, Max Scherzer.
Wow-- I knew Vida Blue, but not the others. I was a huge baseball fan and follower and card collector from about the 5th-9th grades (late 1970s). I still like to follow the World Series, and catch the last couple of games, but haven’t been a huge fan for a long time. Did play women’s softball after college for about 4 or 5 summers.
Name all the college teams whose team names do NOT end in an “s” (e.g., The Crimson Tide). It’s been a while, I think there’s about a dozen.
If you went to Cooperstown and took a count of how many times each player’s name was written—every plaque, every exhibit, every poster—whose name would have the highest number?
Cy Young
(without research)
Stanford Cardinal
NC State Wolfpack
Marshall Thundering Herd
Tulane Green Wave
Harvard Crimson
Syracuse Orangemen
North Dakota State Bison
That’s all I got. Who’d I forget?
Fighting Irish, off the top of my head. Also, this may be dated, but when I first heard the question, the Navy Midshipmen.
Fighting Irish is one of them, as are the Midshipmen. I always heard the riddle as “doesn’t end in S, and doesn’t have a color”.
Edit: damn you, Strato!
Just remembered: The Fighting Illini
Duh and duh. I’m in the Chicago area, so those should have been the first two on my list.
Of which, there’s always the tried and true “Last switch-hitter to win the AL MVP award.”

I have 2.
What was the winning percentage of the 1927 Yankees, with their murderers row lineup that included Babe Ruth’s 60 homers?
.714, equal to the Babe’s career home run total
How many intentional walks did Roger Maris receive in 1961, the year he hit 61 homers?
Zero. That’s what happens when Mickey Mantle bats behind you in the order.
OK, what’s the trick answer?
There were 3 brothers, so there must have been an unofficial 4th one I guess. The three brothers were Felipe, Matty, and Jesus. Felipe’s son Moises was an outfielder later on, and his son Luis was a manager of the Mets. Moises had a cousin, Mel, who was an MLB pitcher.
The Alou Brothers also had a cousin, Jose Sosa, who was a relief pitcher for the Astros.
And even though they were known as the Alou brothers, their patronymic last name was Rojas, so you’ll hear either Alou or Rojas as a last name to refer to them. Luis is primarily known by the last name Rojas (he is Moises’s half brother).
Since Moises was known as Moises Alou when he played, I am guessing the 4 “brothers” were Felipe, Matty, Jesus, and Moises.
I’m always surprised when people know the answer to this one. Perhaps it’s not as trivial as I think it is:
Who was the last player from the Negro Leagues to play in the Major Leagues (not counting stunt appearances)?
Henry Aaron, who retired in 1976
