Posting on cell phone, formatting floating box solution

I can’t believe I only just discovered this, but maybe I’m not the only one.

I do most of my posting from my cell phone for reasons. I’ve been annoyed ever since the switch to Discourse that whenever I want to format a word or phrase by highlighting it and trying to click on the menu, the floating “Copy Paste Select All” menu is in the way of the actual shortcuts to click on, so I have to format it manually. Turns out, I can just move the floating menu down out of the way. D’oh!

It took me 2 months to figure out that icon that made my keyboard bigger. Enough to actually use it, like I do.
And then I found the stylus in a little slot at the bottom.
Yeah. Go me!

I have no idea what this means.

It depends on the OS you use. I remember that working in one version of Android, but it doesn’t work in 13, and didn’t work in 12 (both on my current phone).

Maybe that’s why it took me awhile to notice it - I replaced my old phone a year and a half ago.

That icon to make the onscreen keyboard bigger is next to the floating box. (Completely different on my tablet and Laptop) I just never looked at what it was and struggled along, as you yourself did, til I accidentally discovered it. As, you yourself discovered your own screen issue.

I don’t know about you but I coulda looked in the manual. But I didn’t.

So, sorry to have bothered you with my little insignificant thought.

Never seen it, but I don’t use a tablet.

Funny how not-obvious these things can be.

Too many moving parts for me, sometimes.

Looking around, there is a possibility that it is a Samsung-specific feature. And it waa three phones ago that I had a Samsung.

I can report that dragging the cut/copy/paste/select all pop-up works on my Samsung S10e on Android 12. Never noticed it getting in my way, but I format by keystroking the magic characters, not clicking the menu icons.

When commenting on how something does or doesn’t work, mentioning what brand and type of device you have really helps. One thing even the most tech-clueless of us know is that there’s nearly nothing in common between a a PC, a Mac or I-anything, and an Android whatever once you get past the very basics of you can read words on the screen and type something somehow.

Thank you!
Holy crap that is useful.

I’ve been moving the line I want to edit down several lines first and then deleting the blank lines. Part of why I don’t like posting on my phone.

I don’t like doing it either, yet probably 90% of my posting is done from my phone.

I am a masochist.
