posting rules

are the rules for posting up anywhere? i’ve noticed mods say - ‘no personal insults in great debates’… etc…etc…

CrazyDiamond, it’s interesting that you ask this, as I started some thread about a similar question not too long ago. I managed to bump my thread just now, so it should be on the board somewhere. (I think it was called “Can any of the old-timers give me some advice about currently accepted board etiquette?” or something like that… it’s almost 1 AM here, so I"m too tired to do a search for the link… wouldn’t want to overburden the server, as I’ve read it does)

So if you can find that thread somewhere on this forum, at least you know that you’re not the only one with this question!

Some guidelines:
[ul]
[li]Don’t insult anyone outside of The BBQ Pit[/li][li]Don’t post links to pornography[/li][li]Don’t discuss ways to do things that are illegal in the United States[/li][li]Questioning the manner in which a staff member accomplishes her/his duties should be in The BBQ Pit[/li][/ul]

If you are unsure whether or not a post is appropriate, e-mail staff members (e.g. all the moderators for that forum) and ask if the post is OK before you post it.

Another rule: shine on.

Our Basic rule: Don’t be a jerk.

Someone else’s Basic Rule (I forget who, but probably not a politician): What is hurtful to you, do not do to others.

Variant: Do unto others as you would like to be done unto by them.

We tend to deliberately NOT provide “rules”, to allow our members maximum flexibility and scope and so forth. We tend to have a mistrust of people with a demonic/legalistic mind who worry whether THIS is OK. How about THAT? how about this other? … folks who skate near the edge to see where the ice is too thin.

They were posted here a while back.

I think the advice that you can log out and then click “Register” to reread them at any time still applies. Thing is, on the old version of vBulletin, some of us didn’t see the “log out” option.

I just tried this and it doesn’t seem to work. Maybe I did something wrong, but I got to the page where you put in your personal info before I got to the user agreement. Strange.

How about saying something * nice * about a poster. Or saying you were LOL at his/ her post?

Is that “not done” here?

Just curious.

Good one, käse! ROTFLMAO

I think you’ll just do fine at the SDMB. I already am in love with your username and your sense of humour is much appreciated.

Now why do I get the feeling my leg is being pulled…

possibly kase 'cause some one was tugging at your foot?

Yes, generally speaking folks don’t simply do 'me too’s (tho they do sometimes do the varient “I’m not one to post a 'me too, but that wring character always is so erudite, concise, witty and profound at the same time…”.

wha?? )

but that’s sooooo true.
