If they’ve never actually received any orders to deploy, can’t they just go home? What did they receive, if not orders?
I’m sure this will calm things down:
Yeah, I came here to mention this. Here is a gift link to the NYT coverage.
I would point out Senator Padilla was in fact forced to the ground, cuffed and removed for nothing more than shouting a question to Noem during her press conference.
The autocracy is fully here for those who are still in denial.
Wow! Putting a sitting senator into cuffs is certainly a new twist.
Wow is an understatement. The authoritarian state is here.
Here is a quote from Noem from that encounter:
“We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate this city from the socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and mayor have placed on this country and what they’ve tried to insert in this city."
Who are these people?
Socialists.
Marx was trying to restore things to the good old days when people worked with their hands, building stuff, rather than stuck doing effete, soulless work for nameless corporations cranking out cheap garbage. That appears to be the political agenda of Trump and Vance.
The Trump agenda is as far from socialism as I can imagine.
The Trump agenda is to cripple the system that would hold him accountable. Add in a good amount of racism and greed while he gets there.
Neither the Great Leap Forward nor Lysenkoism came back to act some accountability on Mao nor Stalin.
I’m not aware of any real-world link between Socialism and accountability, nor even of a philosophical one.
The Nazis also has similar “back to the land” ideas, and are a lot closer politically to Trump & company. “Blood and Soil” and all that.
There are some eery similarities:

I’m extremely curious about this. (And isn’t it just like Trump to try to screw over those working for him—I know several in the thread have already said this, but it bears repeating.)
Here’s the Full Autocracy part:
- the Autocracy side has made definite claims about what Padilla supposedly did
- Footage exists that would prove or disprove their claims
- That footage is unavailable.
Specifically: Noem, Mike Johnson, and presumably every other Republican is claiming that Padilla “lunged” at Noem and “charged at” Noem and “burst into a press conference” (say what?)
But all the available video of the event begins with the goons already manhandling Padilla. What happened in the seconds before they grabbed him? Why, whatever Republicans say, of course! (But we’re not allowed to see it.)
The dictatorial Right gets to choose what reality is. We simply have to accept it.
(Or so they assert.)

The really relevant part, though, is in the portion that they did release. One of Trump’s agents forced an elected Senator to the ground and handcuffed him. That really happened, and that’s what’s important.
I saw something where Kristi Noem called the senator’s actions “political theater”. That seemed ironic given that sending in the troops was political theater of the highest order.
BTW does Kristi Noem always wear a baseball cap?
The trouble is that, as far as I can see, Padilla did not identify himself before he started speaking, he only identified himself as they were hustling him out the door. Maybe everyone should have recognized him, but he should not claim (as he does in a Facebook post) that he identified himself in the beginning.
Here is a CBS news clip that shows the video from just before he started talking.
Can you imagine if this happened during a Democratic presidency? The howls from both sides would be relentless. Yet now we have one party that is dedicated to power alone and does not feel obliged to follow any laws. This cannot stand, yet it will anyway.
This was a news conference, cameras and mics were running before he started speaking, but he was off camera. See my link above.
Yup, Trumps a felon, and he’s never had the cuffs slapped on him.
Not sure either, but it’s happening in Missouri, as well. Our governor calls the action “pro-active.”

The goal is to discourage protests, even peaceful ones.
