Gavin Newsom couldn’t lead a group of kindergarteners out of a candy store. He’s basically the sleezy-but-trying-to-be-cool boyfriend of the divorced mom from every ‘Eighties movie that got shown on continuous loop on the USA Network before they stared making their own shitty original programming. Oh, and he and Musk used to be good buddies before they broke up over Covid restrictions.

Perhaps but Donald Trump isn’t who I think of as a master politician and yet millions seem happy to go off a cliff on his command (while he remains someplace else). So maybe Newsom can lead the Democrats?
Why is that? I think he’s doing a good job of leading California, what evidence do you have for this?

National Guard troops sent to LA never got orders, so they’re not being paid.

Well, that’s typical Trump, isn’t it? Get somebody to work for you, then don’t pay them when they’ve done the job.
Well, the protests are limited in area and scope- very small area. But OTOH there are some criminal jerks burning a couple of cars and doing some lotting- however the whole situation would have died down if trump hadnt made things worse. The LAPD had a handle on it.

LOL, agree. I applaud anything he can do to oppose Trump, but he’s not the future face (or hair) of the Democratic party.

It’s like he wants troops to mutiny… except I don’t think it occurs to Trump that could happen. Or the potential consequences of turning the military against him.
Yeah…it’s just Trump acting like Trump, he consistently fails to pay people or otherwise keep his side of a deal. He just expects people to do things for him anyway, and for whatever reason they usually have. Musk is the same way…it seems to be a feature of the modern oligarchy.
It’s called “self-entitled”. I call it the new aristocracy - rich people who believe the rest of the population is here to serve them. F*** that, my ancestors didn’t leave the Old World just to become peasants to a new bad of settled-in bandits in the New.

This country was founded on both principles: resist the old bandits! let’s become the new ones! However, all the patriotic noises we were taught to make were about the first of those. And just about all the actual advances we’ve made were based on the first of those. Let’s keep it up.
